This! Having a pretty good idea of how much mods cost, I'll drive by other jeeps and mentally add up how much they spent. Then wonder if they hit the lotto or megabucks. If I buy stuff, I wait till sales are happening. Also, stinger bumpers, no purpose unless you're a rock bouncer with a legitimate risk of tipping over.
We have a JT on base, wrapped orange with Kryptek camo. Like 3.5" lift, 37s, functional beadlocks, bed rack, RTT, hi-lift, water and fuel paks, winch...

And everytime I'm like, dude, I KNOW you're an E6. And while I'm an E5 and have a 4xe, I haven't put $20-30K in mods on either. Bruh...

Censorship ! All forms. Mature adults should welcome differing opinions or opinions you disagree with. That’s where growth comes in. MLK said
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that”
My point is Censorship solves nothing but creates more issues. If you let everybody talk then you let everybody decide who’s right. It’s so fundamental but yet so hated on most forums.
Just looking where people are from, and reading in between the lines, I feel like I vote differently than 75% of the people here (i'm just guessing... the number is not accurate)... but knowing I'll get in trouble if I say certain things, I don't always answer the way I'd like to answer...

I get it, because when has an internet argument ever solved anything? But yeah, it's a problem when you can't answer truthfully.

I don't think there is anything wrong with having a "mall-crawler." if that is the esthetic you like there is nothing wrong with it even if you never touch dirt with your tires.
Which mall would you recommend a newbie?

How about this:

NONE of the engine choices are great.

2.0 - Poor sound - "should" use premium gas - power - ESS - issues
At least among the local Jeep enthusiasts I’ve met, the truly unpopular opinion is that I actually LIKE the sound of the 2.0L I4 Turbo.

Oh and another thing ... the color of the day nonsense! Yeah it can be fun but these aren't $20 toys you put on a shelf. You come out with a good color, KEEP MAKING IT!
I’ll second that. RIP Ocean Blue Metallic. It’s a PITA to find OEM paint for touch-ups, but at least the third party options are booming!

Real Jeeps have always been a pita. ?

Not gonna lie though. Ive been toying with the idea of getting a 4 door wrangler.
There's a point in most men's lives where they ponder if they really should get a minivan.
The question is what do you do after that.

Shit, growing up when my dad was E6/E7 we were stoked as hell when he found a clapped out manual V6 Fox-body Mustang on the lemon lot. Now whenever I go back home and pass the line of cars going on base I feel like I'm looking at half a mil in debt driving down the road lol

I only made E5 when I had a Trans Am, OK?
The only reason I didn't buy a Trans Am when I was an E3 was because I was deploying shortly. The guy sold it to one of the other Lances while I was gone... And that clown blew the engine about a year later. :asshat:

The first half of my time in was during the Bush Era with all of the reenlistment bonuses getting handed out like candy... Single guys in the barracks had brand new Ram 3500s, BMW M5s, Mustang Cobras. Had one guy with a Lincoln Mk LT that I really liked.

I was "smart" and tried investing that money but I wound up marrying into a mountain of credit card debt...:headbang:

And to avoid derailing the thread. Another opinion I have... I LIKE the Bronco Raptor... Its UGLY but I like the underlying mechanical upgrades.

‘75 used. 455ci engine was a brand new replacement crate but the bird was burned off the hood from the previous owner and the Borg Warner T10 manual trans was in need of gears and bearings. After repair and paint it wasn’t bad at all.
It was a 98 for me, 350 and a six speed. I bought an 00 Dakota when I got back from that deployment and drove it for 8 years.

Hmm, a steel roofed Jeep with solid axles. Wonder what one could call it? Maybe like the Xtreme Jerp or something, could shorten it to XJ or something maybe?
Twenty years ago it was called the “Grand Cherokee...”

Just ask @cosine he knows!
Jeep people are not any more special than any other automotive enthusiast community
Pretty helpful on the trails however, at least that's been my experience.

Oh, and the only real Jeeps are 2drs and the only real 2drs are CJs, now it's out there lol.

I only made it to E5 when I had a used Trans Am, OK?
I was in Basic with guys who had just purchased new Monte Carlo SSs, and had $18K+ notes to pay off (a big loan at the time, viewed in context). A few others had just gotten married, and had to make it through BMT in order to have a life worth building with their new wives. The slightly wiser ones were waiting to get married until (and only if) they successfully made it through to Tech School.

At the permanent party bases at which I was stationed, there were also any number of sleazeoid car dealers who preyed on the lower ranking enlisted. The dealers knew full well that payment defaults would eventually land at CBPO, where the poor kid's biweekly pay -- what little there was of it -- would then be garnished with little recourse.

As for me? I saved up and purchased my first [used] car for cash, and did so only after ensuring that I wouldn't touch the seed corn already being set aside for University. Maybe I was a bit envious of my fellow young bucks with nice vehicles, but I preferred to look at the balance on my bank statements. I still do. ;)

Jeepers ought to be concerned with their own finances rather than how anyone else chooses to spend their disposable income on an unnecessary Rubicon and tens of thousands of dollars in mods. Just say “Nice Jeep!” or STFU and move along without saying anything.
