Hard top wind noise

You taped off everything except the front doors... and you still hear the noise... this tells me it's the door seals.

I can drive mine up to about 40mph before the wind noise kicks in... faster you go, the louder it gets.

Exact same thing for me! During city driving, I think how quiet the damn thing is, jump on the highway and I feel like I'm fighting the wind.

Hopefully they will find a fix. It was my understanding FCA was aware of the issue and was working on a fix. @JeepCares was requesting JL owners contact them to assist dealerships in a fix. Here's a link to some internal Jeep information which was posted earlier.

I would show it to the dealership if they claim it's "normal". I haven't ordered mine yet and honestly how they end up treating you may decide if I order at all. Keep us posted.

This time around I got admission that the whistle is not normal...I Am Not Crazy!!!...but they don't know what to do

I wish I could say the same. The dealer had mine for 10 days, and I still feel the "cross wind" noise is excessive! I hope Jeep comes out with something to fix it. I reached out the @JeepCares yesterday, I haven't heard anything yet. I went as far as taping everything off. Still not better. It's fine for local driving, but at 70 on long trips it's silly!

Too bad the tape didnt solve it cause it does look good in blue....

Having posted one of the videos in this thread capturing the "CWW" (cross wind whistle) I still believe that what ever is causing this could be something relatively minor. My reasoning is because there seems to be several variables, ie. speed and level of cross winds, and it seems to be only on one side (drivers side). If it were any wind causing it, it would be more constant and occur sooner than 70 mph or heavy cross winds. Could it be something else all together? Maybe... The new fender vent? The hood vents in the Rubicons? Not sure, but If I had to experience, what I videoed, in normal driving conditions, I would loose my shit. (for me it's only when driving into or in notable cross winds and only on the driver's side) or maybe when it happens the wind has always been from my left.....?
I agree that if you are going to tape it off, you have to have someone tape the door seals as well (while you are sitting in the vehicle) . I'm not opposed to trying this but, because I need cross winds, it makes mine a bit harder to test.
And let's all make sure we are taking about the same thing :
#1. Buffering wind noise (nerve racking, ear drumming noise, that happens in many vehicles if a window is cracked slightly, but not perminately!)
#2. Windshield whistle, it's high pitched and kicks in around 35/40 mps and changes tone with rmps/speed. This is related to the windshield not being set perfectly, and or the sealant around the windshield is not perfect (I experienced this in my JK on more than one windshield replacement and a tech that new his shit showed me and repaired mine, and high pitch whistle was gone. And finally
#3. What the videos in this thread depict. THE CCW, is at higher MPH's with or without heavy/moderate cross winds. It's intermited and mine literally kicks in simultaneously with wind gust(s) (as my video shows).
As far as hearing wind over the hard top... that's normal. There are testers that have shown this on YouTube and done decibels tests between JK and JL.. Remember the quietest Jeep out there is still louder than most all other "normal" vehicles.
Are Saharas having the issue? Are any soft tops having the issue (CWW)? I think I'm going to get my leave blower out, get in the Jeep and have a buddy put it close, at full blast, around all the seams, vents, etc. from all angles in an effort to re-create the CCW sound. Do you think that will work? Let's figure out the source of the "CWW".

Out of curiosity could you sit shotgun while somebody else is driving in these conditions and see if it is still coming from the passenger side? I ask as I had thought this with my JK as well. If I rode passenger however it sounded like it was coming from the drivers side. At that point I figured this is just the way a soft top can be on a flying brick in certain wind conditions.

Hi Julie - What is your email address? I have the same problem with my 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited Rubicon. I have 235 miles on it and have experienced wind buffering sounds every mile I drove with all the windows up. My ear-drums HURT . On warm days I roll down all four windows so I can catch a break.

yeah.....so @JeepCares is @not-helpful!! Got my call from the Jeep Advocate man (Jay @ Chrysler)...nothing can be done about the whistle. Jay knew of no active work being done on the issue. I guess i return the vehicle. What a wonderful first and last experience with Jeep.

I have a Sahara and experiencing the cross wind noise at speeds faster than 40mph. I don’t really have time to be leaving it at the dealer. So I’ll just have to wait until someone finds a general solution.

At first I was wondering, “wow it’s always windy here” but no, I look outside and flags and trees aren’t even moving. Yet I get on the express way and it is insanely loud. I took the top off last weekend and it’s way quieter and smooth of a drive when compared to having it on. Surprisingly weird and sad.

Glad we got the Alpine feature on ours I just crank the music and lower the windows lol, I haven’t really heard the whistling you guys are talking about but it does get pretty loud in the cab at highway speeds +65mph.

I had thought about taping the front as well cause the gaps seem to be large by the windshield, but most of the sound seems to come up from the rear of the freedom top, going to try a few things when I can pry it away from my wife.

It’s a Jeep! So I’ll live with it just won’t be taking long road trips unnecessarily for now.
