Took the doors off last weekend and when I put them back on, I no longer have the auto start/stop warning light. However, I do know there is a problem within the driver door/wiring harness. Blind spot is disabled for both mirrors, driver door electronics do not work (lock/unlock and mirror adjustments), and now the remote start doesn’t work. Called the local dealership Thursday, and was told because they are so backed up that if I dropped it off, it would be at least two weeks before they would even be able to look at it or connect it to their computer.

I found the ā€œbent connectorā€ posts and after a couple of hours, I fixed ALL my problems. Bent connectors!!!!! Hard to believe because they weren’t bent bad but I guess they were bad enough and weren’t making good connections.

I’M SO GLAD I FOUND THIS FORUM!!!

I had my 30,000 miles service done on my jeep last Saturday and on my way home I noticed that the Auto stop/start Warning Light came on and my gear indicator on the screen disappeared. When I turn off the engine and restarted the Jeep, the error message goes away and gear indicator reappears, but but when i get on the highway and go into 5 gear, a gingal sounds and the warning light comes on and gear indicator once again disappears. Not sure what to make of it but if a warning light + message is coming on, it cannot be normal. Not sure if i should be concerned but was wondering if this is a fault code that can be removed via the Tazer JL:

Clearing trouble codes fixes nothing and removes important diagnostic data. Something needs to be repaired.

This normally means your ESS is disabled because Aux battery is dead (or disconnected) or well below required voltage.

I would assume the battery was already low and drained further during your recent service with ignition left on without engine running/alternator charging.

I had this issue after calibrating for 35ā€ tires on a 6MT. Something to do with the final drive ratio being outside of acceptable parameters and for whatever reason that triggers the ā€œa-holeā€ light. The dealership reflashed the ECU and it fixed the issue. I doubt that’s the issue if it showed up after you just changed your radio, but on the off chance that your in a 6MT with oversized tires and you’re all out of ideas it might be something to look at.
This just happened to me after having the Mopar lift and 315’s installed on my 6-speed Manual Sport S with stock gearing. . Hadn’t had it in 5th gear since the speedo recalibration and as soon as I hit 5th gear in the highway it threw the code. Turned Jeep off/on and went away. Was able to reproduce: everything’s fine until 5th gear, then light comes on. Turn off/on- goes away. Pull up to light in town and ESS actually does work just fine (as long was warning light isn’t on). Thanks for the tip. Dealer is looking into the problem. I’ll report back.

After taking mine in I started researching further and came across a post that it could be fixed by disconnecting the battery for a period of time. Remember we have 2 batteries (aux) that need to be disconnected. I haven’t tried this solution but it may save you a trip if you are willing to try it.

Also, it should be noted that even after fixing the problem I determined that 4th gear was a better drive gear for Jeepeto II than fifth and it never saw 5th gear. It felt happier in 4th, and the gas mileage was better than 5th. It ran just fine

That has been my experience thus far as well. Fortunately this happened during the 30 mile drive to the dealer this morning for his 500 mile post-lift-installation retorque, so timing was good. I was able to mention it then. He looked for a service bulletin on the issue and couldn’t find one, but did find a ā€œstar caseā€ with instructions (not exactly sure what a star case is… sounds like a type of alert). He said there was no specific flash for it, but they made some adjustments and told me to drive it down hill in 5th gear to essentially retrain the system. Sounds a little imprecise, but we’ll give it a shot on an upcoming raid trip. Meanwhile ESS continues to function normally and he’s ready for action. Love the larger tires/lifted version of him too. Best thing I’ve done so far and worth a little head scratching to get him perfectly dialed in. Thanks again for providing this information (!).

Just to add to the tread….

Put doors back on and later got the warning light, found this tread and confirmed we had a bent post on the Jeep side of the harness

I’ll add that the way I found which plug…. the drivers door when opening wouldn’t turn the dome light on. You can unhook the plug from the body of the Jeep, there’s a tab on the back of it then pull down. This allowed me to check the pins easily and easier to line up when reconnecting and disconnecting for taking doors off. I left it loose didn’t see a need to attach it back.

Thanks for the info and hope this helps someone else
