Hello all,

I have had a knock in the back of my Wrangler for a few months and I just had the opportunity to get some audio of it. It isn’t the window rattling. Any help on this is appreciated.

The elec. harness for the tail light is kept from moving around and making noise by a plastic push pin style harness holder. Pull the tail light and check to see if that holder pulled free.

Hard to tell with the sound bite... the sound also could be thanks to the tail gate latch being out of adjustment. Was the road a bit bumpy when you did the sound bite?

I second the tail gate .. my wedge (not the actual latch) moved a little and was allowing the tailgate to move and the latch was rattling on the striker.. check that wedge and make sure it didn't move.. you may have to adjust it a little. I had to get in the back by the swing gate and let my fiance drive in order to find exactly where the noise was coming from.. once I was back there it was obvious it was the swing gate.. I adjusted the wedge and no more rattle

Was this resolved?

I have the same problem. The car can be not moving and I hear it from passenger tail light. Sometimes it resolves on its own. I notice that the sound stops when I open any door. This is the strangest thing.

I have aftermarket taillights in mine. I had similar noise, was due to the wiring connector flopping around. Secured it down with zip tie, no more noise. Maybe worth a shot especially if you don't have stock lights?

Thanks for replying. My sound seems to only happen when the motor is warming up... after 20 minutes it just resolves itself. Also, I hear it when I am stopped, not while driving. it also stops when I open my door. This is the wired part. So I agree, has to be electrical related that it stops when maybe the dome light comes on as a result of opening the door, IDK. I haven't figured it out yet but will post when I do. I did reach under the fender to see if touching the wires I could feel the tapping sound but felt nothing so I don't think it is the wires but will do a more thorough check just in case.
