I noticed that today as well. I have about 225 miles on the odometer and saw this stuff on the hood insulation. Is there a 50 page thread on insulation gunk? Trying to determine if she'll be catching on fire soon.

She's only been in dry conditions. No rain or snow yet.

Is this a rubicon? Those stains are located pretty much exactly where the rubicon hood vents are…and the line of stain going to the edge of the hood on the left is exactly how the rubicon vents direct water ingress out of the hood.

Jeep is in all out Bronco battle mode. Large number of the recent changes we have seen come out are due to benchmarking Jeep against Bronco (e.g. XR on Rubi and Willy's, 4.88s option on manuals, Standard 8.4 on many models). This is very good for us consumers.

In many areas, Jeep is so far ahead of Ford that they can turn the volume down a bit. Case in point, the engine bay, all Jeep engineers did was look at Bronco's hot mess of wires and hoses and say "Da fuq? If we dump our engine covers, Jeep will still look way better than that... and we will save some money for other investments!"

I heard Stellantis sold the rights to the Wrangler name to Citroën for 40M Deutschmarks and in return, our 2023 mid-cycle refresh is gonna be a rebadged Citroën Ami with a 2-foot lift and fold down front windshield. Times are tough man,

That thing coming or going? Hopefully going for good!

The question was asked, if the cover is no longer needed why are the threaded holes still there for the cover. The answer is molds. Large molds can take up to a week to machine. and for an operation as large as 3.6 engine manufacturing there are probably a lot of molds needed. You can bet each one of those top molds cost about $30k-$50k each. It is cheaper to keep using the molds, and keep tapping those holes rather than spending $$$ to change it up for aesthetics. What they should have done was just put bolts into those empty threaded holes to clean the look up. Post #53.... over halfway to 100 posts.
I can see the after market now. Digital printing plastic "threaded-hole" covers for the no longer available engine cover. Did I cover everything?

The Jeep website clearly shows both 3.6L engines with no covers. The two best engines, the 2.0T and 3.0T have them. Time to let this dead horse rest.

Engine cover? Maybe I don't need no skink'n engine cover? The 3.6 L intake manifold shape and ribs look kind of like a super-charger. I am telling everyone I have a supercharger! Now all I need are some engine decals made up!:rock::CWL:

Yes. Two door Rubicon. I thought those "vents" were not functional and sealed?!?!

Actually, that would've been the smartest thing Jeep could've ever done. Get rid of the engine cover, but finally introduce a factory-installed, tuned and warrantied electric supercharger for the Wrangler for those of us that A) really want something more powerful than the Pentastar at a more affordable price than the 392; B) better compete with the Bronco and Defender's boosted options (~400HP/TQ and f'ing available in a 2-door even on the cheaper base models!); and C) an attractive cosmetic option for anyone that still wanted an 'engine cover'.

I mean, the incoming GME turbo i6 will likely make this idea moot (eventually), but imo, a factory-installed supercharger is a no-brainer that should have been an available option years ago. Smart thinking viper88 and you know what they say.. something something about 2 birds getting stoned, right? ;)

Removing the engine cover is just part of the cost cutting by Stellantis. Cost cutting is happening everywhere.

Stellanits is tightening up the ship and dealers and consumers might not like it. It seems like Stellantis is auditing dealers more and charging-back for stuff more often? I guess in the long run dealers will have to be much more careful and run by the book.

Makes me wonder about potential warranty and service by dealers. Dealers might become gun shy and refuse everything because they worry they can be charged backed after an audit. Hopefully consumers of Jeep/FCA products are not going to pay the price for the cost cutting in the forum of worse customer service. I mean the bar is already set pretty low as it is at most FCA dealers.

Charge-backs we have herd of recently:

*Adding engine covers or removing engine cover brackets.

*Selling too many custom ordered "SOLD" orders to buyers other than the buyer on the original order. This is not a charge back but a dealer can have it's allocation suspended.

*Affiliate pricing audits and charge backs. There is a dealer on this forum that was charged back $250K. They do not honor AP anymore.

Seems kinda strange that they'd want to save $70 for the cover, but not proactively save an extra $40+ by not installing the brackets (since their intentions are to eventually delete the brackets as well). I mean, why bother doing something half-assed like that?

Maybe they were rushing to get orders out the door asap. All the engine cover and bracket deletes will eventually make it down the supplier pipeline.
