Let me start by saying it could have been significantly worse but as the title states a deer ran into the driver’s side of my brand new Rubicon XR.It was a buck, but a smaller buck and while the Jeep suffered enough damage to the fender that it will need replacement, a pretty good size dent in the hood and a few minor dents down the side it can and will be fixed. First time that’s happened to me in my 18ish years of driving. Guess that makes me 1-0

I feel your pain: I’m about done with fender & headlight replacement, grille & bumper upgrades on the wife’s Jeep after she had a deer encounter. Parts availability and body shop wait times factored into how we proceeded with repairs. F#ck Bambi and all his whitetailed vermin relatives.

What did you choose to do if you don’t mind me asking? Wondering what my options will be as I was thinking parts availability might be an issue

Curious if you had the base bumper or the steel one from the factory? If the base, do you think the steel one would have made any difference in the rest of the damage to your XR?

The wife’s Jeep is a Willys so we were looking into upgrading to a set of Rubicon fenders - the cost of one replacement Sport fender is a good portion of the cost of a Rubi set - but didn’t want to get on a waiting list for the Rubi fender set. Hope your single Rubi fender is easier to get.

A replacement 1-piece grille is available only in primer and is beyond my comfort level to paint. Local body shops are scheduled out for months so we went with the matte black accessory 4-piece grille - I just barely have enough skill to paint the surround pieces.

The body shop wait list and simple bolt-on repairs made up my mind to go the DYI route.

Our parts order was delivered complete within 2 weeks which I would say is quick by today’s standards. A couple of pleasant surprises with our order:
Though there is no indication on the parts diagram, the replacement fender came with body clips and lights installed
The replacement LED headlight comes suspended on a frame in the box - impressive packaging to prevent ship breakage of an expensive item

Sorry for your bad luck....Had a similar experience with a brand-new truck several years ago.I had my deer completely missed, and the truck stopped. The deer is headed in the opposite direction when it makes a complete turn and runs straight into the side of the truck. Fear causes some crazy shit.I'm sure you will soon have your great looking Jeep back in perfect form.

Now I don't feel so bad about some jack ass forgetting to put his car in park and slowly rolling In to my rear end at 2mph....his Nissan maxima bumped my rear spare tire. I was real pissed! Only 3 week old rubicon with 300 miles! ....messed up his hood and stupid emblem but I think my baby is okay. I just hope the jolt didn't do anything to my tailgate.......
