Jeep Wrangler JL Clutch Failure E2CDF9DD-1960-4F66-9639-000B3CD3FB9C

Has anyone encountered a similar issue? One of the clutch spring straps (not sure what they’re called) broke and tried to cut my bellhousing in half. Not sure if this is common or if this is unique.

Has Jeep changed the clutch design between 2018 and 2021? How many miles do you have on it? How many vehicles have catastrophic clutch failures like the JL Wrangler? Usually a clutch failure is a silent uneventful death from what I know.

Edit: Is that bell housing available as a separate part or is it new transmission time?

That's pretty incredible. How many miles?
I would have a good welder touch up those spots, maybe even just JB weld, new clutch, good to go.

Jeep has 48000 miles on it. I’m not sure if they changed the clutch design between those times. I believe they came out with a recall in regards to this issue. It was a software upgrade that would essentially put the Jeep into limp mode if this type of issue was about to happen. Something I neglected to take my Jeep in for.
The bellhousing doesn’t separate from the transmission but I’m having the damaged gussets welded. Hoping that’s enough.

Yeah man I was amazed. Jeep has 48000 miles on it. Luckily I work for airgas and know a few talented welders that will help me out.

I think you'll be good.
The recall is supposed to prevent overheating the clutch...I don't think it would have prevented your issue.

These are 2 pics of the hole blown thru my transmission by the pressure plate exploding and blowing my clutch and severing my wiring harness. Every single person I have spoken with that has a background in auto mechanics says the only time they have seen damage like this is at a drag strip. Looking for anyone that has already started legal action because I’m so pissed off at this point that I will be pursuing action against Jeep.

Did you notice anything prior to the failure? Ex. peddle feel, sound when pushed? Or did it just one day go?

doubt legal action is gonna go anywhere.....
they will say its a wear item and shit happens and stuff breaks. is it angering yes.
id like to see some pics of the clutch itself, and would be very curious as to what could have caused that part of the clutch to break. could of been bad heat treat, bad design, or just plain ole fatigue, but from what i know usually when i clutch fails its because its wore out. I know my brother did have a spring in an aftermarket clutch break on his camaro one time, they told him sucks to be u.
definitely following as i have a 6spd with 64k on it.

Did you have the clutch recall work done? Not that the recall would have prevented this, but just curious. Report this you NHTSB. Might e able to get reimbursed later due to a recall.
