Taking the rig in to the dealership tomorrow to try to remedy a couple noises I'm having. Any help you guys can provide in determining what these might be would be very much appreciated. I'd like to try to point them in the right direction so they don't try to give me the usual "couldn't reproduce issue" bit.

The first noise is a constant squeak coming from somewhere up front when I turn the wheel. Happens at all speeds. It was there from day one. I figured some steering/suspension component just needed to break in, but it's only gotten worse over the 1000 miles or so I've owned the vehicle. Video below.

The second is a dull rattle/creak coming from the rear of the vehicle. I think that's how I'd describe it. It's quieter, and happens with any vehicle movement, and I feel is coming from somewhere near the tailgate. I've tried removing the tools, changing rear seat position, wedging something between fenders and body to jam them in place, etc. What seemed to get rid of the noise was driving with the tailgate open (very slowly, in an empty parking lot); as such, I'm leaning towards it coming from the tailgate/latch/spare assembly, but it's entirely possible that the noise was just drowned out as a result of having the tailgate open. This one is much tougher to hear in the video, but is most noticeable at 0:49, after I comment on driving in neutral and subsequently shift into neutral and coast. Sorry for the dizzying video, the phone was in my shifting hand.

Again, any pre-dealership-visit guidance is VERY much appreciated!!

Hi Darlene. Thanks for checking in.

Just got the call from the dealership. Looks like they've ruled out any interior or trim pieces as the likely culprit. They've tightened down everything properly in the cargo area and tailgate. They're now taking apart the rear axle and suspension to try to isolate the sound. Evidently it's more serious than I thought.

Uploaded another video for anybody interested. You can hear the noise starting at around 46 seconds, shortly after I say "light turn greens" because apparently that's how I talk now.

I hope they find it for you. Stuff like this drives me crazy. I took apart the whole dash in my Tacoma to find a rattle. It ended up being a speaker grill. Keep us posted.

I was expecting different kinds of sounds when I read the thread title.

Thank you! This sounds pretty similar to mine! Though his is more consistent and mine is more on/off with road conditions. Maybe his was worse off than mine and able to make the noise with just the vibration of the vehicle at idle? In any case, I've forwarded this information along to my dealer to see if they might check that out too.
Could be the internal muffler baffles are loose, not welded properly.

Update.

RE: The squeaking from the front, the dealer says that the sound was identical to another JL Rubi on their lot, and said it's normal. Would anybody mind confirming?

RE: The rattle/creak from the rear. The dealer determined that the glass on the hard top wasn't quite sitting correctly, so they ended up removing and reinstalling that. They said they actually ended up going through nearly the entire rear end of the car and tightening things back to spec. Evidently they found three other odd noises that might have translated to the sound I was hearing in the cabin, which is somewhat concerning; but they addressed all three of those as well so all is okay. The noise is gone!

Side note... Looking at the dash cam footage, looks like everybody was very professional in handling my car. Lots of very slow speed driving maybe 30-50 feet down a bumpy alley behind their back lot, then driving right back into the service bay, repeat -- presumably with something or another adjusted each time. They repeated this a good couple dozen times, so looks like they really did go through methodically and try a whole bunch of different things to remedy the issue. If anybody has issues in Southern California, I give my full recommendation to visit Eder Alcaraz at Glendale Dodge Chrysler Jeep!

More important side note... Why is there an ice cream man inside the service area? And why didn't they save me a Ninja Turtle ice cream bar?!?!

Another update. Sadly, the noise from the rear is back already as of this morning, though much, much quieter. We'll see if it develops into full-blown rattle again. The last time it went from the subtle noises like this morning's to a full-blown rattle/creak/rubbing over the course of a couple weeks...

The rear end noise sounds similar to mine. Have someone sit in the back seat while you drive around on rough roads (making sure you get it to rattle). Then have that person push on the rear glass near the bottom where it meets the tailgate. That's where my noise is coming from. I adjusted the rear latch and it made a slight difference. I am going to reseat the top this weekend

Could you please tell me what dashcam you are using? Does it record when the vehicle is off? How do you have it wired in... hard wired or cig lighter? I'm looking for one and that quality vid is nice. I also want to be able to capture anything at the dealer when I take mine in for some issues in two weeks.

I'll give that a shot, thank you!

The dash cam is an Aukey DR02. One of the slightly-less-junky-Chinese-junk brands. It does not record while the vehicle is off. I made a thread on the install it in the DIY section, but it's fairly specific to users who meet all the following criteria: have the homelink setup, don't have the powered rearview mirror, AND like to shut off ESS. I'm reasonably certain that there is a better way to go about the install (i.e, a power source that is always on when the vehicle is on, regardless of ESS), but it works well for my purposes. If you do have the powered mirror, you can hardwire directly to that instead and keep the installation more localized.

Thanks! I meet all of your criteria :)
In fact I have seriously debated hunting down the engineer who decided not to allow the ESS to be permanently disabled and have a nice little talk with him. I believe I posted on some thread awhile ago about what should be done to him :)

I have the same coming from mine... Notice it doesn't happen when the tops off. so its got to be something with the top interface or the glass as well
