The dash cam is an Aukey DR02. One of the slightly-less-junky-Chinese-junk brands. It does not record while the vehicle is off. I made a thread on the install it in the DIY section, but it's fairly specific to users who meet all the following criteria: have the homelink setup, don't have the powered rearview mirror, AND like to shut off ESS. I'm reasonably certain that there is a better way to go about the install (i.e, a power source that is always on when the vehicle is on, regardless of ESS), but it works well for my purposes. If you do have the powered mirror, you can hardwire directly to that instead and keep the installation more localized.
Squeaking/squealing from front end while turning wheel is normal with the JL, something to do with the power steering. Mine does the same.
Separate question for you, when the engine is warmed up at idle do you hear a tapping sound coming from the Lower front end on the passenger side of the vehicle?
