Hey guys can someone explain the difference between the Sport and Rubi suspension? I know the rubi is about 1.5 taller stock but once you put a lift kit in, isn't it an equal playing field for the Sport and Rubi since your putting in new springs and etc? Ive been confused by this for a while now. You'll read that a certain lift kit gets 3.5 inches of height on the sport but 2.5 on the Rubi since the stock suspension is taller in general. What's not being removed when installing a lift kit?

Not sure I understand your question, but I'll give it a shot.

That amount is over the "stock" height(s). So, if the stock Rubicon is 1" taller than the stock Sport, you're going to get 3.5" of lift over the stock height on the Sport and 2.5" over the stock height of the Rubicon. The 3.5" spring is a fixed length for both vehicles, but the starting point is different (by one inch) between Sport and Rubicon, so the "net" increase is different.

Yes you understand my question! The next question is what's exactly making that 1 inch difference? What part on the Jeep is making that difference?

It's the difference in the stock springs. The Rubicon springs are one inch taller than the Sport.

So, the 3.5" lift is providing the same amount of lift, it's 3.5" over the stock height of a Sport versus 2.5" over the stock height of the Rubicon (because the Rubicon has a different stock spring, already one inch taller than a Sport). They don't start from the same place because the stock springs are different. So, the net gain is 3.5" higher than stock for the Sport and 2.5" taller than stock for the Rubicon.

Yes but when installing a "Proper Lift" You're getting new springs that replace the OEM ones

You're right. But if you're comparing Sport versus Rubicon, they start at a different height based on stock springs. If you then compare that lift (aftermarket spring) it's 3.5 longer than a stock Sport spring and 2.5 longer than a stock Rubicon spring (just so you know, when the springs are unloaded they aren't going to be physically 2.5/3.5 taller than stock springs).

This is my sport with the Mopar lift. It started life 1.5” shorter than a Rubicon on the same 33” tire. It lost 1” after adding 180 lbs to the front by means of a steel bumper and winch. After adding the 2.5” lift, it gained about 5” up front. So now it’s sitting 2.5” taller than a factory Rubicon.

The 2.5” class of lift refers to the change in height when applied to a Rubicon.

The mopar lift looks great! I was going to go with it but I think I'm going with an AEV.

I wonder if you'll know the answer to this question. It almost seems like a riddle

You have two wranglers, a sport and a wrangler. You take both the stock suspension offs and replace them with the same 2.5 lift lift with springs and everything. Will both of those Jeep be the same size? If they are not the same size, why? If you are putting in aftermarket springs then what is making the Rubicon taller? Or once the lift is installed are both Jeeps the same size

well when people say "you will gain 3.5 inches of lift on your sport vs. 2 inches on a rubicon". It is because the Rubicon was 1.5inches taller to begin with.

Yeah they should end up being about the same size. I am sure you meant a sport and a rubicon. Nothing about the rubicon is different than a sport above the axles. Only the transfer case, and perhaps a skid plate if the rubi came with metal bumpers. and well sliders.

Just for reference. I got a rubi suspension on my sport. the rubi had metal bumpers, hardtop, towing package and it was a 2 dor. my sport had a hardtop, and it is a 2 door.

I gained about 1.8 inches on the front and almost 2.5 inches on the rear (because of towing package).

I got a light winch and stubby light bumper that are almost about the same weight together as the rubi full size front bumper. and my jeep is now 1.5 inches higher on front than it was a sport. the rear dropped to about 2 inches higher than sport once I replaced the spare tire with a 33inch M/T falken and a rear metal bumper.

So yeah, the stock rubi is 1.5 inches taller than a stock sport

If you do an aftermarket lift kit on a sport, you’re replacing the components that would be on a Rubicon. So your aftermarket suspension on a Sport and Rubicon will be the same. Where a Rubicon is more beneficial is with all the other hardware- lockers, sway disconnect, etc.

True. The giant RUBICON sticker adds 100lbs.

We all know the rubicon is very special and has a lot of extra details that add to the trim. This post however is about suspension and components that weigh enough to make a difference.

For example. A sport without lockers om the rubicon trail sits about an inch lower than a rubicon with the same suspension. Because of the sports driver's giant balls
