I'm concerned about tucking such a large wheel so close to my control arms, and I'd be worried that at full turn, I'd be grinding rubber into my suspension. Not at all worried about fender rubbing- not planning on flexing hard enough to run into that any time soon, and I'll be taking off the front air dams anyway. By the time I'm able to go out and flex like that, I'll have picked up Rubi takeoff shocks/springs for a little more clearance. Just to clarify, I understand the backspacing difference, and yes, I have plugged it into rimsntires.com. At the moment, I'm not concerned about a regear, or a lift; that's another battle for another day. I've tried searching every dark corner of the forum for a definitive answer, but I've had no such luck.

This is my daily driver, 99% of miles are pavement, so my primary concern is for on-road performance. I'm going with a set of 5 315/70r17 BFG K02s. The wheels I'm looking at are the Rocktrix RT105s, which come in a +12, and -12 offset. Obviously a -12 would fit, but I'd also be worried about putting too much strain on my axles and wheels bearings, wearing them out prematurely. Anybody been in a similar boat with some hindsight advice to give me?

I'm running 315/70/17s 17x9 -6 and they already stick out a good amount. If you put -12s on there they are going to stick waay out. Other than that they shoud fit fine, but yeap all that extra force on things that weren't meant to be stressed like that will probably cause an issue. I'll post a pic of mine so you can see what it looks like.

Oh.. let me warn you about this now: "Tire browning..." be prepared to to battle with it, and stay on top if it. I have only had my 35s a few months and they are brown as crap, and I'm struggling to get it off. So far I am many hours in and probably not winning the battle.

Maybe you’re confused. If they are the same width and the only difference is 6mm of offset, being more negative in this case they are going to stick out 6mm more which is negligible. .2 of an inch. If the wheels are different widths and offset they may be significantly different.

I’d recommend the -12 with you having a sport. The rubicon axles are 3/4 inch wider on each side (1.5 inches wider overall) than the sport. I run 37x12.5 on 17x9+12 and they just clear at full turn and flexing. I get it you said you don’t off road but have a buddy with a gladiator and 17x9-12 with 35s and he still rubs at full turn occasionally. Mine is the wrangler and +12 on the rubicon. His is the gladiator on -12. Gladiator is a sport model with non max tow axles so would be same width as normal wrangler sport axles.

his wheels are the same size as the ones I’m getting. It may not seem like a lot, but that .5-1 inch difference in track width makes a huge difference in the front. The sport axles aren’t the most rugged things on earth, and I don’t want to push them past their limits with stances out 35s

Yes. I understand that they will stick out quite a bit more than stock, but he made it sound like the -12 vs -6 will stick out way more which isn’t the case. The -12 vs his -6 is about the same. .2 inches difference. Good luck with your decision.

That being said if you’re trying to talk yourself in to the +12 you can always adjust the steering stops if you can’t crank the wheel all the way without rubbing. The +12 wheels will have 13mm more inner clearance vs stock wheels, so you may not rub when mounted but may at full turn on the frame or LCA. Below comparison is stock 7.5 wide +44 offset vs 9 wide +12 offset wheel.

What do you think of 17X8.5 wheels with 0 offset/4.75 back spacing? That configuration is popular with Sport and Sahara owners.

The wheels sit just about level with the fenders.

I prefer the look of the 17X9 with -12 offset/4.5 back spacing but the 17X8.5 works.

It's hard to find a wheel I like that doesn't cost a fortune, and this one's perfect. It's just that the size and backspacing only comes in two configurations.
I'm not a big fan of all the wheels nowadays with fake bolt patterns that are trying to look like a tank; but I also don't like big, gaudy wheels by FUEL or XD. Some takeoff willys/moab wheels would be ideal if they were a bit wider and not impossible to find aftermarket. If you know any black wheels that'd be an easier fitment I'd be open to suggestions.

It took me a while to find a few wheels that I liked.

I have read a few complaints about the cheaper wheels in terms of the durability. The paint chips easily on some, for example. Perhaps it is best to buy once and cry once.

17X9 with -12 offset and 4.5 backspacing

The Fuel Beast D564 and the Method Race MR701 seem to be fairly popular among members of the forum.

Not sure if you’re still looking at 17x9 +12 but I got these from discount and have been happy with them. I didn’t want expensive wheels as I knew I was going to beat them up off road and I have. I actually waited until a holiday sale with rebates and got all 5 for $500.

The wheels outer bead will be 2.22" further out than your factory wheels.
