Why did you also remove the metal (sheet) skid plate as well? At least that offers a bit of protection and serves as a warning system...
Mostly looks honestly. Second, I dont think that there is really a benefit to the skid. It is minimal at best to protect the sway bar in factory location in my opinion. None of my previous Jeeps ever suffered damage here without that skid. Then again I never had smart bar sway bar back then.

I will say after doing this mod.. pretty sure I will have to return it to factory to fit a future winch mount. If anyone does both, let us know!

Based on my research for the JK flip, here's what you'll need. It's not a perfect fit, but will get the job done. I, like you, refuse to pay Ace $30 for $5 worth of hardware.

(1) 10mm x 1.5 bolt, ~4" long and fully threaded
(1) Sleeve, ~1.5" long
(3) 10mm nuts
(1) small diameter washer
(2) large diameter washers

What was the pitch on the bolt threads?

Thanks!

This is painful - you quoted it in your reply!

Also stated as M10x1.5

edit: also I'd be impressed if most general hardware stores (including Ace Hardware) stocked an M10x1.5x100mm fully threaded bolt. That's a bit of an odd duck. Of course as most (all?) Aces are franchises YMMV. I'd just go to a true fastener supply if you have one (Fastenal doesn't always count) and save the headache of Hillman bins.

I got everything I needed from Ace - 4" long M10x1.5 included.

I know. It was a long day after a dark and stormy night. I realized it the next morning.

I couldn’t find the bolt here so I ordered the one from ACE. Cheaper than driving all around trying to find one.

I am in Denver and have the ACE bolt that I can't use. $10.

This is the first mod I did to my 2008 JKUR when I got it. I think it was about a week old and I took a sawzall to the bottom cross-member to remove it. My wife was less than pleased when she saw me under the Jeep with a sawzall hacking away at a brand new Jeep with paper tags still on it. I got an Expedition One skid plate to protect the motor once rotated. 100k miles on it and countless off-road trips. Never had an issue with it.

I plan to do this soon to my JLUR. Sadly, I don't off-road as much as I used to...

Anyone using this method and have a winch in place? Really like the idea but worried it won’t allow room for a winch.

Thank you! I am having the rebel summit series bumper installed and wanted to rotate the sway bar motor and still be able to fit a winch. This guy did it, so it is do able with a little effort

no prob, and I should have referenced post 17, not 27. I edited just now to correct.

I’m in the same boat. Had been looking hard at the Gen Right ultra clearance. But I dislike the fact that I’d have to modify/cut the winch tray to make it work with a Rubicon.

The rebel summit series looks great! Wish they had an aluminum option.

Yes, aluminum would be a great option. I have been looking for the right bumper for over 2 years. I liked the steel bumper from mopar more then most of the aftermarket options. I don’t like the winch up and out like the Evo and Genright. Two years ago at the KOH I spoke to the guys at Genright. I liked there bumpers except for the winch placement. I also didn’t like the fact that you have to put in a steel winch plate and tabs into the aluminum for it to be strong. I know it still saves some weight but didn’t seem like enough. Anyway, what this guy did is exactly what I want to do but with the Rebel Summit and no skid plate to save weight. Hopefully, it won’t require any extra trimming on the bumper:like:

I hadn't really looked too hard at the up and out aspect..I probably should.
The Evo quarter pounder has also been an option I've been eying.
AND the Evo Pro Series - they showed it at SEMA and Northridge lists it with "image coming soon."
It appears to seat the winch lower...from the few images I've seen.

The pro series looks nice. But, still not available.
