After years of wheeling, I FINALLY sustained some damage to my Jeep last Friday. It’s not terrible damage that will entertain y’all, and many have had far worse. But it’s also not just trail rash, either.

We were at Jeepin’ With Judd, on an “advanced” trail. It was pretty gnarly and surprisingly technical in spots - for Florida. While going up a steep obstacle with a muddy, off-camber, tight turn between trees, and large exposed tree roots, we were solidly bounced into a tree trunk. Because of the steepness and very poor traction, it required high wheel speed. I knew there was a good chance it would happen - and I did it anyway, like many of you would.

Upon seeing the damage, my wife just shrugged and said “It’s a Jeep. When you do Jeep stuff, Jeep crap happens. Besides, that’s why we have a savings account. Looks like you are shopping for a new bumper and fenders when we get home.”

She’s cool; definitely a Jeep wife. I may keep her for awhile longer.🤣

If any of y’all have recommendations, I’m all ears! I am going to replace all of the fender flares with steel ones, and the front bumper. If I see a good deal on a front and rear bumper, I may do that, but the rear will have to have a plate holder in the stock location for the license plate. Also, I don’t want a rear bumper with a tire carrier; I don’t want to lose the use of the rear camera, and I already have a good spare carrier/reinforcement.

(unless you’re looking for an excuse to do something different, which i totally understand), why not just replace the factory flare?
they bend easily, don’t show every little scrape, and won’t generally transfer the force of every contact through to something more valuable.

That definitely makes sense, and I am still considering it. I guess I’m looking for an excuse to do something different, change the look.

OP, not making light of your trail damage, it always sucks (a little), but....

a) Surprisingly Technical and Florida, never go together.

and

b) Damage and a cracked plastic basic/not even LED flare that is sold for $50 on marketplace and ebay all day long, does not compute.

Rip that fender put a marketplace or ebay take off - heck some owners here will give it to you for free just to clear the garage and move on. Don't let get you down.

Happy wheeling.

I have to second this point because personally for me I think steel flares just cause more problems than their worth especially if you end up hitting something with them which is bound to happen and in your case bound to happen again.
And I don't mean that in a bad way, if you go wheeling enough you're going to catch your flares.

Check out KBD fenders. Built in LEDs and super clean look. Also check out Motobilt Crusher front bumper. Nice and stout, can take a severe beating and looks great.
