Never understood the idea of bringing all that extra weight from a camping stove set up, when all you really need is a hatchet and some waterproof matches. Which mind you, you're probably going to be carrying anyways.

I understand it's easier to cook more complex meals on a stove, but are you really camping if you're not cooking on a wood fire? Feels more like glamping with all your fancy sophisticated meals.

Chances are you're going to start a fire to sit around once it's dark, so why not start that fire a little earlier and cook on it?

Think about it, that extra 20 lbs you're saving not carrying around a camping stove and fuel, could fit an extra Coors 24 pack... They take up about the same amount of space!

What do y'all use, fancy fairy glamping stoves, or are you a real man cooking on a fire pit?

I didn't vote. We use a disc for almost everything.

30+ years a Scout (Eagle) and Scout leader. Cooking fires are dirty, require a ton of work to maintain, put out correctly, clean correctly, and a lot of times are banned anyway.

I generally bring a small single burner stove. I don't need an elaborate set up to cook, and I have this from my backpacking days already. In the morning, I don't want to F-around getting a fire going or relit to get coffee made. More often than not, I tend to have to bring a bundle of wood with me because the useable wood is usually picked over or wet when I find a camp site. The weight of that wood keeps me from brining that 24pk of Coors and I bring a bottle of bourbon... I just can't drink a lot of beer anymore. I enjoy sipping on bourbon better anyhow.

Well someone is feeling a little grumpy this morning.
Santa didn’t bring you that Skottle you wanted for Christmas?

Out west we get into fire restrictions pretty early in the summer. At that point you either use a camp stove or get used to PB&Js for every meal. Also, in the morning I prefer not to build a fire as we are likely going out wheeling if not taking our entire camp with us nomad style. You'll need a crap ton of water to properly douse a fresh morning fire. The jet boil is clutch for morning coffee and takes up minimal space. We will even make ziploc bag omelets on it for easy clean up. I'm with you on the camp fire at night when its an option and there's nothing quite like a ribeye cooked over an open fire. For these reasons I didn't vote because most trips require both. At our desert property we cook breakfast on the Blackstone but dinner is usually on the camp fire for the same reasons.

Cooked like this on an overnight trip to Crossbar.

But really it depends on the trip. I have used small backpacking stoves, cast iron over a fire, one of those Coleman style grills that use the cans of fuels and burner.
In higher elevation starting a fire sucks and I lean more towards a gas camping grill.

Edit: I voted like a princess for my use of charcoal, instead of chopping up wood like a man.

I presume it's always no burn season near me cause it is. Protein shakes in the cooler along with cold cuts, cheese, and tortillas. Hate hot beverages so no need for coffee.
