Camping inside my jeep

Hi everyone, I am brand new to the jeep community. I recently went to an overlanding expo and caught the bug! I am slowly building out my wrangler JL 4door and wanted to share my progress. I’m also interested in hearing ideas and suggestions. After hearing mixed reviews on roof top tents I decided to camp inside my jeep. I took the rear seat out and installed a rear seat delete / bed platform made by Springtail Solutions. I cut up a foam work out mat for insulation and then added memory foam. Very comfortable!

With the seats pushed forward I have just enough room. I am 6’ and can sleep comfortably.

Moving blankets, that’s a great idea! I never would have thought about using them, that’s a great way to add insulation and comfort without breaking the bank.

Very comfortable. I’ve even made a little shelf that I set my JetBoil on and make a cup of coffee in the morning before I get up.

I tried the deep sleep mattress, my wife wasn’t a fan because it transferred too much motion when I moved around. Love the storage bags you’ve got in the upper corners.

On my JK I was tired of having to move the fridge to the front and moving all bags so me and my wife could fit.
So when I bought my JL I decided to do a platform that would fit the fridge and bags permanently. Now time for a cross country trip NJ to CA with many stops in between.

We used our DeepSleep for 2 years and slept inside the Jeep, we couldn’t stand it anymore so we upgraded to a rooftop tent and couldn’t be happier.

If I were to keep sleeping in the Jeep, I’d make sure of the following:
- Find a way to reduce or eliminate condensation on the windows, it got really bad and we kept our windows cracked for a cross breeze
- Find a way to block out the sun in the mornings, unless you like waking up with the sun
- Find a way to insulate the Jeep. For us, when it was cold, it would feel colder then it was, and when it was hot, it would feel hotter then it was
- ensure you have mesh on all windows and tailgate opening to minimize bugs
- I wouldn’t recommend an air mattress because they don’t insulate great, and they deflat overnight so it felt like a water bed
