I replaced the OEM front locker with a Bronco actuator and z-locker since jeep won't sell the actuator. During many tests with a meter i found the power switched on and off without delay.

If you're concerned about a Z-locker not providing adequate power, using the OEM dash switch through a z-locker to switch a relay would solve the concerns.

I believe the z-locker simply taps some power, runs it through either resistors, a shunt, or a switching regulator to send the low voltage signal back to the drivetrain control module (DCM). The voltage signal from the Hall-effect sensor is what the DCM is looking for.

Im suspicious the original z-locker used a simple resistor tap to reduce voltage for replicating the sensor signal. This method of voltage reduction is inefficient and may be the reason Eaton says the remaining power is not adequate.

Spoke to tech support at Dana Spicer and they use the following part on each of their axles and it works with the UD60 axles. I believe those also use the
This part is now listed for anywhere from $750 to over $1000, depending on where you buy. You would need 2 of these for front and rear lockers. Rediculous.
At that kind of money why do you need a tazer? When it comes to electronics I’m way out of my league but why doesn’t someone come up with a modified oem switch. I just don’t understand. We can go to the moon and beyond but no ;we can’t solve the switch problem that takes care of the stupid light and activation.

I was a bit concerned about that myself. While the Z-locker has been flawless with my UD 60 activation I was worried about long term damage. Fortunately I only use them occasionally and for short bursts so I don’t think it will be a problem. I read somewhere that Z-automotive changed the wire gauge. They are impossible to connect with. No one answers the phone and the e-mail I sent has not been responded to in over 6 months. I was hoping they could confirm if it was safe to use the ones I have or if I should invest in the newer versions.

I know what you mean about not replying to your e-mails. I've noticed that a lot of companies on the internet do not update their sites or answer their e-mails. I think they should be updated monthly or self destruct. Even some of the well known sites don't answer. I sent an email a couple months ago to a certain 4wd shop for some info on a Hemi info and they never replied. Needless to say they will not get my money and we are talking thousands of dollars involved for Hemi and axles. Oh well I just chalk it up to a company with to much success, forgets where they came from.

Can’t you use a simple two wire harness like this with the switch of your choosing? Assuming you or anyone else doesn’t switch the locker on at inopportune times.

if it were that easy, I would think it would have been done . Most people want to use the factory switch. It is cosmetically appealing and would not entail another wiring and switch install. Some day someone will solve this and it will be so simple maybe as simple as the two wire harness. 😎 or a better locker solenoid.

Yes an independent 2 wire switched 12v power source will allow complete control, without any limitations for speed, or transfer case mode selection.
