XR Package Deep Tint Sunscreen Windows

I've ordered a Willys XR. In western Washington state we get our mandatory 2 weeks of summer (and 3 days of winter is my running joke) but there are some pretty bright days so I'm considering if I need/want to tint the windows.

I've found a few threads about tinted windows, but am not clear (pun not intended) - Just how dark are the "deep tinted sunscreen windows" with the Willys/Willys XR Package? Which windows are actually tinted? How dark? Percentage?

Is the rear window tinted and/or tinted as much as the side/door windows?

For those who had the XR windows tinted afterwards, how dark did you go?

Recommendations to include which type of tinting are welcome!

The tinted windows on an XR are no different than any other Wrangler with this option. I had my front windows tinted 35% but I think the factory is closer to 20-25%.

There is no factory tint on the windshield or front 2 doors. Only the rear doors and soft top/hardtop windows.

The front door glass is not tinted. The rest is like 22% or so. A 35% on the front glass blends nicely, at least it does on mine. And at 35%, I don't have to put my window down whenever I want to see to back up at night.

But there will be others who chime in and say they have 5% all around and 50% on the windshield.

the factory tint sucks. just plan on tinting it out how you like.

you are going to get 100 different tint recommendations.

But purple is my wife's favorite color!

Seriously, I have no intent of doing it myself. I did a reflective sun strip at the top of the windshield on a Mazda GLC once upon a time. Looked ok, but I'll let a professional shop do it on the Willys.

Thanks for the tip on the material used. Once it arrives I'll work with a local shop to have it done within state specs.

Does anyone know if the "deep tint" has any uv blocking? I wasn't aware that the tint on the hardtop windows was just considered privacy glass as well as the back windows. At least that's what I've been seeing alot of on this forum. For the hardtop has anyone installed a clear uv film on the windows? Can you add that film to the rear windows as well?

if your doing a 4 door, just ask the shop what the back windows are, like others have said i think either 25 or 35 and have them match the front doors to the back, i did that on mine and like it. not to dark, but, enough to make a difference

I did this same thing but added a brow on the windshield. I agree I don’t hate it. Will probably go a step darker on the 24’

We did a 30% ceramic and it turned out perfect.

Many people just go to a quality tint application business and say, “Please apply ceramic tint to the front door windows so they will match the rear.” That makes a difference, it’s not so dark that night backing visibility is terrible, and it limits law enforcement risk. Unfortunately, even that isn’t legal in Oregon.

Vehicle window tint laws vary by state. Washington requires at least 24% light transmission on the front door windows.
