Fuel theft is the least issue. Tampering is far worse.
Dont cheat on your significant other or piss off anyone and youll be fine

I have the Bolt hood lock. I was able to install it myself with some effort. Full disclosure, I am a 57 YOA female, but have always been one that likes to do things on my own if possible.

One thing I just learned. I took my Wrangler to the Jeep dealership I bought it from to get my first oil change & 5 tire rotation. Just for the hell of it, I checked to make sure that they locked it after changing the oil. They did not. So if you take it anywhere for service where they have to unlock the hood, make sure you check that they locked it after completing the service.

I'll unlock the Jeep's hood before turning over the vehicle and its fob for the annual state inspection appt. This prevents the tech from pulling up too hard on the hood after unlatching it, since he might not be expecting a hood lock on a Wrangler (for a variety of reasons, I use our Honda dealer for the inspection appt.)

Since the hood is unlocked when the tech takes possession of the vehicle, I wouldn't expect him to lock it after the Jeep is returned to me.

Just a bit of additional context. :)

Just to add, my original thinking was that it’s common sense, unfortunately common sense can’t be taught. You either have it or you don’t. After I watched my dash cam showing the tech trying to figure out how to unlock it, is what triggered me to check afterwards. I also found that my dash cam was disconnected from the OBD Port when I got back in it.

Mm. That smells of CYA on the part of dealership staff. Neither an oil & filter change nor a tire rotation would, in isolation, require disturbing the OBD II port in any manner.

That said...

How would've the dash cam been powered (to capture the tech's efforts with the locked hood) if it was unplugged?

I noticed the dash cam was disconnected when I got in the Wrangler at the dealership. I didn’t think anything of it at the time, because I figured it must have been done for a valid reason.

I watched the last recording and saw the tech unlocking

I thought that disconnecting the dash cam from the ODP port probably wasn’t needed, but maybe it was. I don’t t know, but I also don’t think there’s some conspiracy theory reason behind it. It was just an observation.

My concern was upped recently on a trip a city. Saw the TV news that there was rash of battery thefts. They did not just take the battery by uninstalling them, but using bolt cutters. Thefts were occurring on hotel/motel parking lots. That would generally involve more than just installing a new on. The hood locks won’t stop them if they want it, but might cause them to bypass your rig to an easier mark.
Sometimes all you have to do is make it a little harder for them to steal from you and they may look elsewhere. If they really want to steal from you, they will do it...

@Kim M

Regardless of why your JL/JT is at the dealership Service Dept., (Oil change, Eval or whatever) It is not at all unusual and actually pretty typical for the Jeep dealership Service Writer and also the Tech working on the vehicle to plug into your vehicle's OBDll port.

A reader is plugged into the OBDll port that amongst facilitating other communications, can also communicate with one of the Chrysler wiTECH2 , dealer level OEM diagnostic tool inside the bldg.

Next time you are at the dealership look at the roof of the dealership Service Dept. building... you will see antennas there that are used in regard to the deed.. communication between vehicle(s) and wiTECH2 (s) etc. in the bldg.
