Would this be an effective dome light delete?

I have a 2023 Wrangler Sport. They combined the dome light and instrument cluster light into one wheel which is a massive pain in the ass. I don't want the dome light 99% of the time, so every time I use the Jeep I have to fiddle around with the knob. The instrument cluster is unreadable with headlights on at any time other than midnight if you have the dome light switched off.

Since I have a Sport with no power windows or locks, I believe the wires leading into the doors only function for determining if the door is open or closed for dome light and door-ajar warning purposes. I've been lead to believe if you just unplug the doors the Jeep will essentially think you're in doors off mode 100% of the time and never activate the dome light unless it's manually switched on.

Would this work as an effective, easily reversible dome light "delete?" Are there any other problems this may cause?

I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Give it a try on the drivers door and let us know!

I have the base model. Yes this will accomplish what your looking for.
It will also not know if your door is a jar or open so if you have kids could be your only concern.

There should be two clicks at the top of the wheel. One for full instrument lights, and the next click to turn the dome light on. Did they change this on 23's?

Well, there are two clicks at the top of the wheel, but it was changed from two wheels in 2022 to a single wheel to control both functions in 2023. The problem is you can't have instrument cluster brightness and the dome light turned off. Unless I'm mistaken, but every pre-2023 model I've seen has two wheels with independent functions.

picture of 2023 light controls please…
Also wondering if you be able to swap in a later model 2 wheel control to work for you as well.

The second wheel is for the interior footwell lights, doesn't do anything for the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster has always also been the dome light switch as well. At least in my 2020.
The left wheel does absolutely nothing in the Sport, not even footwell lighting. When I first got my JL, I actually thought something was wrong, but that's just how it is.

It's the same design in previous years. The additional wheel is for other functions as other people have already stated. Am I understanding correctly that the first of the 2 clicks doesn't do anything for you then?

Unless they changed it, you have two "clicks" at the top of the wheel. One gives you bright dash with lights on, and full up turns on the dome light. They are close together, so do it gently and report back.

Oh, I thought it was for the dash illumination.

In any case the problem is still the same, you need to crank the wheel all the way down to disable the dome light, and then you can't read your dash 70% of the time.

No kids, so not a concern. I rarely even have a passenger up front.

If you have to crank the wheel all the way down to turn off your dome light you have something wrong. As mentioned above, the two clicks are close together but there are two distinct positions. One gives full cluster brightness and the second turns the dome light on and off.

Yeah you should get it looked at.
the very top detent turns the dome lights off and on, the detent right before that indicates max cluster brightness. The dome light is meant to turn off right past that detent, and the rest of the scroll is just for cluster/stereo dimness/brightness.

I mean when the door or tailgate is open, not manually switched on by scrolling up. You need the minimum dash brightness selected to have the dome light off with the doors open. I don't want the dome light when the door is open 99% of the time, so I have to dick around with the scroll wheel constantly.
