The nice people at Wolfbox reached out to me recently asking if I would do a review of their new G900 Pro. This is my honest review and was not paid but did receive the product for free.

Here is everything that came with the box. I did not know what exactly I was going to be sent and what size the mirror cam would be. The size is much larger than the JL mirror so when installed you can not open or close the visor. Unfortunately, I use my visor all the time because I'm a short gal and need it to be able to not be blinded by the sun.

Due to this I was not going to spend time hard wiring this dash cam into my Jeep as I can not use it so I plugged into the cigarette lighter so that was still able to get some footage and provide a review.

I do not have an ACC box so can not report on that but with the visor open it gets in the view of the camera. The camera does have some play so I moved it facing as passenger as I could to get the least amount of blockage. The downside of this is that the camera does not face forward when recording and you get a bit of a skewed view.

If I face the camera forwards it is halfway blocked by the visor:

I do not have a good spot to even put a rear camera on my spare due to my license plate mount being right on top of the rear camera so I did a temp mount inside the Jeep just to get some footage.

My current dashcam is made by Galphi so I ran both at the same time to get some comparison. My Galphi is 2k, the Wolfbox is 4k in the front 2.5k for the rear. I do not have a rear dash cam to compare to.

Ok onto the rear cam. I'm sure footage would be clearer if mounted outside the Jeep but I'm not really able to do that at the moment. I might give it a try tomorrow.

I also noticed that while mirror will only reflect, a screen will both reflect and glare. At times driving with the rear camera view it felt a little like seeing one of those Magic Eye posters. Sometimes you would be looking at the footage and then your eyes would switch and all I could see was the inside of my Jeep reflecting on the surface of the actual playback screen. And in direct sun it was sometimes difficult to see the screen clearly.

Another thing to note that if you look into your rear view mirror at different angles you are able to change your perspective or what you are actually seeing in the mirror. If you replace a mirror with a video screen all you will be able to see is what the camera sees.

My summary review:

PROS:
- 4k footage is very clear
- Wifi app once hooked up is simple to use

CONS:
- can't use camera with visor down or it blocks camera and can not move visor up without removing the dashcam from your mirror
- screen surface very reflective and sometimes difficult to see
- can't change the angle of what you are viewing in your rear view camera

So is this product for me? Not really.

Is there someone out there who will love this product? Sure. If you don't use your visor and are set on one of the many mirror cam products on the market then I think Wolfbox is a nice choice.

Edit: Part 2 of the review will be night cam footage so stay tuned....

I've been on the fence about picking one of these up but the issue with the visor has been what's holding me back. I'm a visor before sun glasses type of person. I'm told the 10" version somewhat works though.

Yes a 10" version would be better for sure.

I think besides that I would still pass on any mirror dashcam. To me it seems like a solution without a problem. Mirrors work 100% of the time.

You might have a different perspective if you had a massive spare blocking your view. Or if you frequently loaded up the cargo area with camping gear that blocks it.

Note that someone backed into my RS-5 and I didn't have a camera to record that it was clearly their fault. These cameras record that evidence.

I have the 930 and the sun glare and lack of brightness is it's major downfall, especially if your top is off. Night time has a lot of headlight glare to where you cannot judge the distance of vehicles behind you. Also, be aware if the upper left red dot is recording properly. I noticed my red light would only flash part of the time and discovered it was only recording the first and last 7 seconds of the video in a 1 minute loop (audio was recorded the entire loop). I reformatted the card again and it seems to have resolved the issue at the moment.

I wanted a dashcam that couldn't be easily stolen since my top is down the majority of the time. While it solves that issue, there are some downsides.

That is a fair counter argument for sure. My boss has a huge converted camper van and has a mirror cam and loves it for this exact reason of not being able to see out the back of his van.

So while not something I need, I can see how it would be very useful for others.

I also agree that having a rear cam is a good thing in case of an accident. I was hoping I could get another Galphi and point it backwards but the one I have is discontinued and I haven't looked into an upgraded version that has both.

Nice review! I was actually considering one of these since my rear view is blocked when loaded up but may search for an alternate solution.

Well I'm struggling to upload more footage and I don't have a youtube account to upload files so here's a picture of the rear camera when mounted on the spare:

Jeep Wrangler JL WolfBox G900 Pro Dash Cam Review Screen Shot 2024-09-01 at 9.44.40 AM

The quality of the cameras is great. My real issue is that I don't want to replace my mirror with a screen.

Sometime in the future I'll probably upgrade my Galphi to something that can run a rear camera as well.

Something interesting I learned is that both of these cameras use essentially the same app. Not sure if it's just a generic app used by everyone or if a Chinese company owns all of these smaller dash cam companies. When I open up the newly downloaded Wolfbox app I can switch between the Wolfbox and my Galphi.

So, the camera angle (up down left right) can’t be changed independent of the mirror angle?

It’s more likely that the controller is the same inside (similar to how many of these companies use the same displays or cameras). It’s way cheaper to use an off-the-shelf controller/API than develop one yourself. I’ve run into this a lot with smart switches/outlets and other Amazon Bluetooth/wifi-enabled devices.

That’s my big issue. I’d much rather mount it right above the radio than replace my mirror, turn it on when needed, and have a separate front camera (preferably instead of a built-in camera).
