Like many of us, I'm not fond of all the gratuitous electronic voodoo that plagues the JL. However, I have had no issues with the eTorque and believe it is a much more effective and reliable alternative than the dual battery configuration in the ESS. I'd rather have neither, but if Federal regulations require some sort of engine stop/start capability, I'd vote for eTorque.

That's exactly why I voted for the eTorque. While it may not have any real world advantage to Jeep performance, it absolutely eliminates the asinine turd called the AUX motorcycle battery.

But I'll agree and be able to sleep soundly at night if the ESS system were to just evaporate and go down in the anals of history as a dodo-bird fart.

If you caught on to the shitty theme for the ESS system, you're an astute reader.

Jay
With a wide eyed lens of what could go wrong in peoples lives and their families if some shitty small battery is the worst thing that is currently going on in your life you're doing pretty good.👍

Hi-

We bought 2 JLU's over the course of a year. I registered back in 2024, but really don't spend much time here.

Anyway- my wife has had a 19 Sahara with the Pentastar. I really like how "light on its feet" it felt during daily driving - meaning the 3.6 drivetrain responded very easily for whatever input to the go pedal. In Jun 2024- I bought a 21 Sahara and realized after the fact it was the etorque 3.6 . Its gas mileage is roughly 3 MPG better than the regular 3.6, but its drivability relating to throttle inputs and driving feel seems much less than the regular 3.6. It doesn't feel as linear when hitting the go pedal? It feels more labored in driving?

Her 19 only has 25K on it, and I bought my 21 in June of 24 with only 21K on, but now at 35k.

Did both you versions feel differently in drivability?

Thx
Chris
Personally have not noticed a change in throttle response. If anything the etorque seems faster.

Thanks for the data point! I've never seen any real discussion on eTorque drivability here until this came up. Mine just feels tighter and like its out of breath...even the go pedal seems harder.

Thanks
Chris

I like my etorque 3.6 and have no complaints. It’s peppier off the line than the non-etorque 3.6 and honestly I don’t even notice the start stop. I appreciate the extra instant torque off-roading as it keeps the jeep crawling along.

I understand that people don’t like extra tech that complicates their Jeeps, but the etorque has been one of the more seamless and trouble free systems in my experience with it.

With that said, I would still say let sleeping dogs lie and don’t bring it back. It’s gone, no need to bring it back and rile up people who don’t appreciate the benefits or just think it’s something being shoved down their throats. The country is too polarized and honestly it wouldn’t sell in this environment if people were given the option.
What part of Central PA are you from? Port Royal here

this be my beaut of an engine, all stock 2d 80th. I run top-tier an 93 otctane

etorque.webp
I have the same engine but I always thought that it only needed reg 89 octane.
Should I try the 93…? The Sunoco by me also has 94…..😁

i get mileage 23/24 in town and 27/28 on hwy. The 6 with eTorque is really the sweet spot, never feel like it bogs and has plenty to give at higher revs as well. Fuckin love it
The etorque does nothing in any of those scenarios. It's literally only active for a quarter of a rotation at a dead stop. It could theoretically help a tiny bit in stop and go traffic(although even according to the EPA it gets identical fuel economy in town)but is literally just an oversized generator to charge the 48v battery which then charges the 12V battery 99.999% of the time. . Placebo effect and having no idea how the system works are the only things the proponents of etorque have in common.

I’ll say no. I like it better than the starter based stop/start by far but there’s a big complexity and parts cost downside long term in my opinion.

The only pro’s might be it helps rpm match on downshift possibly helping the timing chain life and maybe a little push off the line.

Cons, the added complexity and cost of ownership long term. I’m feeling that lately. I hope the eTorque system doesn’t let me down soon too.

I’d prefer a non MDS 5.7 if I could snap my fingers & make it happen. I’ll give up mpg at this point for a little better reliability. I’ve had good luck with the first gen 5.7 Hemi in the past. I’ll go without all the bells and whistles too if I could but that heated seat and steering wheel is awfully nice. 😄 Direct wiring instead of Can Bus too since I’m wishing.

The BSG is only engaged for like half of a rotatation from what I've read. That .001 of a second of turbo lag it could help with is placebo at best. Driving my wife's 3.6L etorque and then my 3.6L gladiator back to back there's literally 0 discernible difference in take offs or shifting. The ESS was slightly smoother but both are shut off anyway.
Couldn't possibly feel quicker off the line because the rubicon has 4.10s and the sahara has 3.45...
If we are going to compare etorque vs no etorque they should probably be comparable models?
Since when would 4.10’s be a disadvantage off the line 🤔

I believe I saw an interview on YouTube with a Jeep engineer who thought that the 3.6 would run better with premium. I run with Sunoco 94. My 3.6 eTorque runs very well, although I dream of putting a 5.7 Hemi in there one day.

nothing in my post ever noted to what you inferred at all -it does torque fill below 1500 revs, and its a great system
