wiring through the firewall

Using the grommet on the passenger side is actually easy and a better option if you need to wire a thick battery power cable.. the trick is to lay on the floor and push the inner fender liner out of the way... then from inside the rig poke though the grommet with a thick wire ... the grommet is doubled walled.. then attach the electric cable to the wire using duct tape and apply oil to it to facilitate the cable going through the grommet.. then pull it from the engine compartment.. done!

Then push the wire through the grommet from inside the rig:

Attach the electric cable to the wire on the inside of the rig side using duct tape.. lubricate with oil and pull wire/cable from engine compartment:

I have a question about your method for using the passenger side grommet. In your second picture you show the wire coming through the grommet on the engine side. In the picture the hole in the grommet appears to be 2 or 3 times the diameter of the wire. How did you make the hole larger? I ask because I am afraid I'll tear the grommet if I try to pass a 4 AWG wire through a small hole made by a piece of wire that is a lot smaller than the 4 AWG.

I have a question about your method for using the passenger side grommet. In your second picture you show the wire coming through the grommet on the engine side. In the picture the hole in the grommet appears to be 2 or 3 times the diameter of the wire. How did you make the hole larger? I ask because I am afraid I'll tear the grommet if I try to pass a 4 AWG wire through a small hole made by a piece of wire that is a lot smaller than the 4 AWG.
At this point I would recommend against poking the grommet, it is dangerous as you could poke into the wires and cause some serious damage, if you have an automatic transmission, then on the driver side there is a unused hole covered with a plastic plug, I used that to route the front locker wire, I believe on manuals that hole is used for the clutch cable.... If I had to route a thick battery wire to power stuff in the cabin again, I think I would just drill another separate hole on the firewall and use a rubber grommet, I know... it sounds kind of scary to think about drilling a hole through the firewall LOL, but it is not that bad, after all, the firewall is already full of holes / rubber grommets :)

I ended up going through the plastic plug on the driver's side. It worked very well.
