While driving home from work tonight my windshield started fogging up like crazy. I had the defrost on high and the condensation was on the outside. I had to run the wipers all the way.

I wondered if the engine was overheating however, the temp was fine. I popped the hood and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

Any ideas?
Anyone else had this happen?

It did rain for the first time in a while here in San Antonio today. I wouldn’t think that would cause it to fog up for as long as it did though. It was not raining when I was driving.

The difference between the temperature of the windshield glass on the inside compared to the temperature outside caused condensation. Think of a cold beverage in a can or bottle on a hot day. The can or bottle will start to sweat with condensation due to the difference between the cold beverage inside and the hot air outside. This is 100% normal.

When I first moved to Colorado I mentioned that to a coworker who had never really left the area. They'd never seen what you described.

Try drilling small holes in the bottom of the windshield to equalize inside/outside temps? ?
What?

I don't know if that was meant to be a joke, but OP, please do not do this!!!!!

To avoid this, the interior temp needs to be set at or above the outside temp, otherwise you'll get the never-ending condensation on the outside of the window.

It was 66° this evening and my son had the A/C temp set on low. The windshield and leading edge of the two front doors had condensation on them, so I turned the interior temp up to 70° and all the condensation was gone after a few minutes of the glass temperature equalizing.

Holy crap! You were right. I put seven 1/8" holes evenly spaced across the lower portion of my windshield and now I haven't fogged up at all.

Tomorrow I plan on going out of the garage for about 10 mins if my mom will let me.

It's that time of year in Texas.

If heat ain't working, try some cold air.

If cold air ain't working, try somewhere in the middle air.

Just make sure to keep your air conditioning light indicator on, because that tends to produce a lot less humid air for whatever reason.

If all else fails, roll your windows down, and run your windshield wipers until the air outside equals the air inside.

I leave the warehouse at 4:30 in the morning on weekdays, this time of year is always bother some for those reasons.

It produces less humid air because air conditioners are dehumidifiers. :like:

They take air from inside the space, car, house whatever
remove the water from the air with the condenser and then that water in the condenser is put through a radiator that a fan blows over for the heat exchanger.

Holes appear in a Wrangler windshield as soon as we leave the dealership, except if you got the gorilla upgrade
