Windshield cracked - question

Less than a year owning my 22 JLUD and my windshield cracked out of nowhere. Idk if something fell on it or what. The crack grew within a day and I’m unsure if it’s repairable or needs a full replacement. My question is - my original windshield is so cute with a Jeep Easter egg on it, has Mopar stamp on it. I’m guessing I’ll lose all that if it has to be replaced huh? ?

This. You can get a Mopar replacement windshield and keep your easter egg doodads.

However, they designed the Jeep in such a way that it's very easy to crack the windshield. They also engineered in cute little pictures into the windshield to entice you into overpaying for OEM glass so they can rake in some extra cash from you. Don't take the bait.

PixieDecals (a sponsor on here, I think) can make you any Jeep Easter egg you can think of. For a few $$. Get a generic one.

In saying that, there have been people that got warranty replacement glass because it was easily shown that no impact caused the break. Take it to the dealer and tell them it was just growing one morning when you went to go to work.

I didn't ask for the OEM replacement when mine broke, but that is what they gave me. I thought I was going to lose my little Jeep Easter egg but happy it is still there, even if nobody else sees it. If you are paying out of pocket, then you might want to skip the OEM replacement, but if your insurance covers it, do the OEM.

If it has a crack, it probably can't be fixed depending on how big the crack is. A friend of mine checked prices on windshields when his cracked and to get the OEM for his JK was about $250 more than what Safelite had. If the little jeep is worth $200 bucks, go OEM. If not get generic.

2 of our 3 Wranglers have had the windshields replaced, one Gorilla glass, one not. Gorilla glass one was replaced by the dealer under the 2 year warranty at no cost w/ a new Gorilla one, and the other was replaced with our insurance w/ $0 deductible with an original Mopar windshield. Both replacements had all the Easter eggs on them.

Our dealership here is so crappy that when my GG windshield cracked they said its not covered. Luckily, in FL, windshields are replaced free. I couldn't get GG again as it was on back-order but I did get OEM. I want to say if it is less than a 6" crack they say its repairable. If its greater than 6" it should be replaced.

That would depend on what a window without a Willys logo costs. I just know when I had the window replaced on my old Renegade a few years ago, a MOPAR OEM window (with the little Jeep climbing up the side) would have cost me $150 more than a plain old window.

Check your warranty, I believe the windshield is covered for 1 year.

I checked my windshield into treatment to get ahead of it before it succumbed to the crack. Been crack free for over a year now.
Don’t let your windshield turn into this! Say no to crack!

Thanks everyone! I live in FL so it was a free replacement with AutoGlass and they put a factory windshield on, so I still have my little Jeep

We lost five windshields on our 2018 in almost five years. Got an unfixable dinger two weeks after replacing one. We have $0 deductible glass coverage and specify OEM replacement. Think it is worth the expense.
