I’m one of the fortunate ones…4 years 45k miles and still in original windshield…until yesterday.

Have a Safelite appt next Monday…any suggestions on type of windshield I should get a da replacement? Basic, OEM, Upgraded?

Thanks for your suggestions!

My neighbor works for a glass company. When I asked him the same question he said OEM usually fits better but you'd think they were all made in the same factory. With the price/problems of gorilla glass I wouldn't even consider it.

Last Week Happened to the wife and I. 2018 JL 26k miles, not a lot but living in CO its bound to happen. Need to see what insurance will cover, but probably sticking with OEM. I haven't heard Gorilla Glass is worth it. Unless its the same cost for the OEM. Then why not try it

It depends on how attached you've become to the little Jeep in the passenger-side corner... :)

Just had my first chip, 2018 JL w/44k. And caught the rock from another JL. He had already hit me twice and was switching lanes because of all the rocks he was throwing, then BAM!

Be careful with Safelite. If your Jeep is lifted with larger tires, they may say "it can't be calibrated" if you have the adaptive cruise control unless put back to stock height. At least that was my issue with my last windshield replacement by them. Had to take it to dealership with stock tires/wheels for them to calibrate. A PIA. Now granted, this was my second windshield replacement by Safelite and they had no issue calibrating it the first time.

Maybe they didn’t actually calibrate it the first time? How important is it that it’s calibrated?

Well, I had 2 ACC dash lights that only go away when calibrated. Didn’t have any lights the first time so it’s obvious they did something different between the 1st and 2nd time. That’s what I’m thinking.

thanks. I was just curious what has to be calibrated when you replace the windshield and why lifting the jeep makes a difference…

Because the sensors are attached to the windshield. The sensors are initially calibrated at stock height from the factory.

I don't know about other states, but you can drive around in Texas with a crack all across your window. As long as it doesn't affect the windshield wiper and destroy it, you're still legal. I was thinking I had to get my window replaced before November the past safety inspection, but as it turns out I don't. So I'll probably just run with mine with a big ass crack in the middle for the next couple years before I replace it.

What's it calibrated for? Distance ahead, headlight alignment or ?? I don't recall having mine calibrated after installing a 2.5" lift with 35s? I don't use cruise control so maybe I'm just blinding oncoming traffic. How much difference would changing the windshield make to calibration?

Sorry, I'm just bored and curious - bad combination on a Saturday.
