Did they change this for 22??Not true you can get Proximty on the Willys!!

35" on xr rubicon, heavy duty 44s with steel nuckles and cv instead of u joint, off road plus, 1.5" lift, fox tuned rubi shocks, tailgate support plate...etcCouple of other things as well besides FAD...
- Lockers on Rubicon vs. Limited slip diff on rear of Willy's
- Transfer case
- HD axles
- Tire size 33" vs 32"
- Rock rails on Rubicon
- Offroad+ on Rubicon
- Different hood
Prob more than this, but just what I could come up with. You'd more than likely be perfectly fine with a Willy's based on what you've mentioned. Plus it is likely less money so that should help keep the wife convinced!
All that comes with the Willys Xtreme Recon as well. And don't forget the bead lock wheels and performance breaks.35" on xr rubicon, heavy duty 44s with steel nuckles and cv instead of u joint, off road plus, 1.5" lift, fox tuned rubi shocks, tailgate support plate...etc
Yup, i forgot to mention that lolAll that comes with the Willys Xtreme Recon as well. And don't forget the bead lock wheels and performance breaks.
And the 4-1 transfer case and hood. If you want the 8.4/alpine system and proximity entry the price difference drops to $2,500 between the 2. On a $50k plus purchase I'll take the convenience of push button sway bar disconnect (great for all types of off roading, really smooths out the ride) and the ability to use lockers if I need them every time. If you want leather (far easier to clean mud off), the Rubicon is the only option.XR package comes with 35”s and the same suspension for both Willys and Rubicons, along with the same high line fenders and HD axle and axle ratio 4.56. The sole difference I believe between both with the XR package is the lockers on the Rubicon and electronic sway bar disconnect
Willys XR will suit you well. To be completely honest a base model sport will suit you well for your intended use. I ran a BASE model JL sport ($30k jeep new) as my last rig, and took it to Moab many times with great success. Rubi comes with goodies, but they're completely unnecessary. The XR rubi magnifies that even further. After quite a few years of bugging the wife it looks like I finally got the ok to get one. This is after being Jeepless for many a moon. Only had CJ’s and TJ’s before I was married.
My question is, other than the electronic disco’s, what is the difference between the Willys XR and the Rubi XR. Is it really worth the money to get the Rubi if I don’t plan on crawling over boulders? Most of my off road will be logging trails and the occasional ORV park and maybe some Jeep Jamborees. Maybe someday I will do a once in a lifetime trip to MOAB but that depends on the wife and what she thinks.
Why manually disconnect? I love the push button ease and the tazer allows ot to be disconnected at in speed or transfer case position. It still flexes great running the electronic disconnect in my experience. I can stuff one side to the bump stops while maxing out the 30" long shock on the other.Upgraded hood stickers. Can't believe nobody mentioned that.
I use mine in the rocks and mountains. My #1 motivator was the lower transfer case followed by the lockers. I still manually disconnect when I know we are rock crawling. The axles are plenty strong as I have a very light foot. If it goes, knuckles and RCVAs will be added later. Coupled with the Off Road +, she crawls great! The Tazer Mini adds great bells and whistles which would only stand to enhance the Willy's. I use the line lock a good amount.
Honestly, I think the Willy's would be perfect for what you are describing for yourself.
As for resale, I think as the vehicle gets older, a Rubicon may be slightly more sought after and will be slightly more spendy than the Willy's but it does come with a higher starting price tag. I base this off looking for a LJ. While I doubt the JL will ever be the LJR unicorn, it might be more sought after as more moons pass? I wouldn't take resale into consideration even with all this said.
Few reasons just based on experience. I've seen the sway bar "flip" in the wrong direction destroying the actuator. I do get slightly more travel but it's disconcernable. Mostly because of the damage I saw happen on the trail. I figure the JKS quick discos are cheap and easy insurance. Not to say I do this all the time, only when I know we are doing something challenging. Rest of the time I use the electronics. Cheap redundancy. Trust me, it's a common "But Why?!" question. Why manually disconnect? I love the push button ease and the tazer allows ot to be disconnected at in speed or transfer case position.
