Hi

I've got myself a JLU Rubicon MY2020.
While looking it over, I was surprised that there was a small metal tab hanging down from what I think is the steering stabliser. It looks like it holds a captive nut in place.

I checked another JLU Rubicon on the dealers lot and it had the same metal tab.

I was wondering if anyone else had this? And if I should do anything about it?
It looks like you could hit it on the trail and it would just fold up - but I'm wondering if I should either try to rotate it out the way or fold it back myself in a more controlled way?

Any ideas?

it's just a flag to hold the nut, you can back the bolt off a bit then turn it up and redrive the bolt.

Interesting. I have the same tab on mine, but it points upward. Perhaps this is a "feature" for folks with right-hand drive.

This... but watch OP will do this and then death wobble for the win...

Make sure you find the torque #’s for it.

Thanks.

Any idea where I can find the torque specifications for this ?
(And other parts as I'm sure it will be useful later on)?

Personally I would trim the tab so that it is level with the assembly and not mess with the bolt. Just be sure that the tab still rests against the flange.

This does appear to be a right hand drive 'feature '. If I rotate the flag up out the way then it will not hold the bolt against the flange. I think trimming it so it still holds against the flange will be better than having it fold up out on a trail somewhere.

From what I can see, the flange on the nut is something called a nut-plate. The type shown allows the bolt to be tightened without the use of the wrench. It is NOT a anti-rotation device like lock wires, cotter-keys or many other types of locking devices. From what I can see trimming the bracket will not effect either the integrity nor functionality of the bracket.

Just take it off and put a regular nut on it.

Just to close this out, I tucked the nut-plate up out the way and then retorqued to nut.
