when my son was about 9 he wanted a new gaming console. It was September. I told him if he was good he'd get it for Christmas. He started whining and wailing about it because Christmas was so far away. So i told him - look son. You are old enough for nice things but if you keep carrying on like a 6 year old you aren't getting anything. Act your age.

We are all excited about our new Jeeps and wish we could drive them home today. But y'all are grown. Act like it. berating @JeepCares and jeep chat and threatening lawsuits and calling FCA names. It's a downer. This is supposed to be a place where we have fun while we wait.
That's an excellent point. I like and act with similar parental style. I was also raised that way. It's a useful tool in being able to manage a life that is not perfect, where others, due to deliberate or incompetent acts, let you down. And, as you said 31, it is a downer.

I do though think that some counterbalance, where people say things like "it's not FCAs fault, but their vendors," needs a hard dose of reality that fairly holds FCA accountable for its vendor management, and not placing all their eggs in one basket on product that is in critical to Wrangler production when they not only chose to outsource product, but to one vendor.

They choose to do this for higher profit that also incurs greater risk. If not complain, per se, we do have a right to hold them accountable, and forums like this one help us do that in numbers.

But whining, I agree. Grow up. I've tried to use humor instead, albeit sometimes with FCA as the target, instead.

I am not--I say humbly--perfect.

I am one that says this! How dare you! :swear:

On a serious note I agree but to a point. We really don't know what agreements were in place. It is not this simple obviously but either FCA said we need X units and did not anticipate the number of orders they would receive correctly or the vendor promised X supply that it could not deliver.

On some items FCA can have multiple suppliers as you stated. When it comes to the soft top however there are not a lot to choose from. Honestly from what I have seen from the few other manufacturers I know of I would rather Bestop handles this part and only Bestop. If there is another manufacturer that can match their quality I would be all for them adding another supplier. In this case however, I do not see another manufacturer that I would want to use for a soft top on the Jeep.

I hear you SS. Sometimes though a manufacturer decides to devote resources, albeit at a price, to producing product in house to replace or supplement a vendor's work. With necessity being the mother of invention, manufacturers BECOME proficient in making that which other vendors, again albeit specialists in their craft, can't or don't make enough of.

Rest assured such contracts incentivize meeting commitments with classic "carrot and stick" techniques for doing so.

I do think it's harsh though to hold FCA to an impossible standard with millions of things to think of and that can go wrong. And you are correct sir: tops are one of those specialty items particularly hard for FCA to manage risk on.

We were having a similar discussion today at breakfast about how the whiny caliber of the threads lately. My favorite: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/rear-leather-seats-worn.5390/

Doc
Very fair point. Really. Rebuttal: if I paid more for leather seats (I didn't) I might have "leather regret," (a new Wrangler (not sexual) term I'm trying to introduce into everyday speech;))

Seriously: I'm trying to slowly read the manual before taking ownership. At one point it said that extended period folded down rear leather seats might have temporary safety belt latch imprints like this. I thought about the post you site when I read this.

I didn’t have an issue with it at first till it started spilling over into unrelated threads and started ruining my enjoyment of reading the forums, but now I’m probably the biggest asshole to those who do whine and complain especially when in the wrong thread or “post whores” new topics to beat an already dead horse.

Just last night in the Sting Gray thread someone posts their chat with Bestop customer service.... all because he’s pissed of the delays on the tops. Not only was he in the wrong thread, he was extremely condescending and disrespectful to someone who isn’t even directly involved with the issue. I’m sorry to those who witness how I talk to those who act that way, there is no excuse for the childish behavior and treating another human like shit and I make it a point to return the favor. I don’t care if it is on a forum or in person, don’t be a twat waffle.

I get it, we are all on here because we have a common love of Wranglers and that typically goes with sharing the same interests. So we come on here to give our 2 cent$ on things, offer information and/or share experiences. :like:

Of course forums can be a platform to vent and I also get why people will post their frustrations. Some are redonkulous while other 'complaint' threads can be helpful or informative to others with similar issues. So its not always just whining. But anyone just ranting is another story and that in itself is usually just trolling for trolling's sake and that is on every forum!

I agree Nate on many levels. You don't complain to Besttop and you don't put that fight here. FCA and the Dealership, mostly the former, is, if you're going to complain at all, the audience for that.

Who only knows what the arrangements are between FCA and Besttop that may be causing the reported delays. The arrangement may be one that not only that puts Besttop's hands behind their back, but contractually precludes them from saying so.
