No doubt. I still have my TJ...built to handle anything a Duluth MN winter can throw at it. After growing up in MN, Colorado winters are very tame.

I'm not going to try and speak for him but consider this... Someone has never owned a Jeep and maybe they've always loved Yugo's... Driving down the road in their Yugo they see a JL and think man that is one sexy Jeep! Maybe they've always been curious about Jeeps and the JL is the one that peeks their interest.

Next step is the Yugo owner starts researching and finds this forum. Reads, reads and reads some more. Comes across the JL issues. Do all have these issues no, but maybe it concerns him enough to start asking questions and applying his logic to the Jeep buying process...

You have 2 choices. Respond in a rude and obtuse manner and call him a troll or respond like a friendly, helpful Jeep lover would.......... Some choose rude and obtuse which is evident in reading these forums... What is needed is for the helpful and friendly Jeep owners to drown out the obtuse ones....

I have never even rode in a Jeep and thinking about a 2019 order. After hanging here on this forum I have my reservations.
I know how the OP feels and where that person is coming from.
I also know Jeep is not going to be problem free so to speak, I will roll the dice and hope for the best. If it breaks, that is why they are backed by warranty or worse case lawyers to make the problem solved.
If they break a lot, I figure the lemon law will
help. I get my humor by visiting the site every day.
Keep it rolling, I have thick skin, so nutin
bothers me.

When we started on this forum the JL wasn't out yet and all we could do is speculate and feed our obsession on this forum.

Now there are JL's on dealer lots all over the country. If you are considering ordering one get off the internet and go to a dealer and drive one.

Would love a 41 willys...my first wrenching as a kid was on one that we were restoring, wwii survivor bullet holes and all. Ive driven topless jeeps in winter and rode motorcycle at as low as 5 degrees. Funny story...st one point i had a 91 white fugly fender Renegade with white hard top. Cold a f in the winter in Duluth. Bought my 99Tj with dark tan softtop and it was hella warmer than the white hartopped yj. That darker hardtop soaked up the sunlight and kept it much warmer...even when u first started it. That yj felt like you were sitting on an ice cube for the first 15 to 20 min you drove it.

Actually she pretty much lost interest after reading the guy couldn't steer at 55-60mph. The batteries catching fire kind of cemented the don't get one. The actual problem now, is I saw the Sting Gray, which kind of put a hook in me, lol. Many years ago I wanted a Harley. I was looking, looking then compared it to a BMW I'd never really considered, but bought the BMW after the comparison and never regretted it. With the FJ gone, which some friends swear by, the wrangler is pretty unique. My father had Jeeps of the 40-50's era when I was a kid, so it's a nostalgia thing as well for me.

Funny. I also got the BMW instead of the Harley. I still own a FJ Cruiser and will keep it. As for the Wrangler crowd, it’s a mixed bag. I’m glad you are taking the bad comments on stride.
I got to say the crowd I’ve felt most at home has been the Land Rover Discovery. Loyal to the ground and always helpful to each other; hell we had to. There are two kind of Land Rover owners, the rich and the DIY mechanic.
On the trail I always ready to help anyone regardless of brand. Unfortunately, my experience has been that the Jeep guys MAY help a fellow jeeper, if at all. That’s were I question the whole Jeep wave thing. But overall I am happy to be here and there are quite a few guys in this forum I would like to share a beer with.

There are no more issues than with any other new car that I have bought and that is about 20 new cars. The people that are not buying these because of what they read should probably just go buy a bus pass. There is no perfect vehicle. You buy old, there could be issues. You buy new, there could be issues. The difference is when you buy new you get to go drop it off at the dealer and let them fix it while you drive a loaner.

Do what you wish but I am so glad I didn’t wait. Enjoying every minute of ownership, especially yesterday out wheeling in the back country with 9 others.

No need to get all oddly defensive. Yeah ev new vehicle could have issues, but they shouldn’t, and a decent amount of the JLs have already had a decent amount of them that need to be ironed out. A couple of which are pretty significant man (let’s just mention frame welds) and I won’t be buying my Rubi until they are. I have savings set aside and am ready to buy one outright, but I see I may be waiting, and possibly a while if people keep acting like it’s all just hyperbole and like it’s just an “It is what it is” type thing. Some of us value our dough and time more than others and are sick of being a substitute for proper R&D. Yes a warranty will cover things, but bringing a new Jeep in for things that could have and should have been ironed out before rushing them to sale, loaner or not is straight bs and gets old quick. Time is the only thing we can’t get more of so I don’t like wasting mine. No one should.

Had a fuel sending unit on my yj fail once and had to replace it outside at -40. Wrenches freeze to your hands and gloves at those temps. Falling in superior wouldnt be fun in winter. Damn lake is so cold u can barely swim in it in summer. Funny but my dad taught me how to drive on a frozen lake when i was 10. No cops to pull us over.

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but has anyone else been hesitant to get the JL based on the issues we've been reading about?
My friends have told me i am crazy to even consider buying a jeep.
I figure the majority aren't having issues, and they've sold a lot of wranglers.

Don’t buy a Jeep, save yourself the trouble and buy a Smart Car.

Wow....the jl coolaid levels in this forum have now reached Apple and Harley Davidsons proportions.

All anybody is really saying against the jl is for new buyers to thoroughly check them out before purchase or wait for a 2019 or get a jk. The people stating this are coming from first hand experience due to the problems and months of hassels they had with FCA before reaching a resolution if the have yet. Odds are it wont happen to the op but the risk is there. Hopefully it doesnt happen to anybody else.

My own situation probably wont be fully resolved until at least halloween and thats after a 2.5 month fight with FCA.

There must be a lot of labor in a jeep build to justify the price. I'd also expect attention to detail, but when people have to make sure the fuses are snapped in, omg. Posts up-thread mention the $50-ish price tag, and yes that's a lot of money for what you are getting in my opinion. There is no way people should be stranded after a few hundred miles on that kind of coin, as well as other problems people are reporting.

I'm getting swayed out of one, because of problems noted and I really wouldn't be off-roading enough to justify the expense. If I were to be an off road type, why would I pay for power windows, locks, stereo systems etc. It seems Jeep is trying to market a Wrangler as a street/trail vehicle , that really isn't a great for a family. My wife has always wanted a Wrangler, it's just not a practical vehicle for our main car.

One can get the new Subaru Ascent for less, pretty damn loaded. Thing can swallow a 70" flatscreen in the back. Yes I know it won't go where a jeep can, but I see many Jeeps driving trails it could. I had a Honda Civic in the 1990's. I look at the new MSRP on the Civics, and damn if they are not better now in real dollar terms (if not even dollar to dollar) for a hell of a lot more car today. For around $20K, you don't see people getting stranded, and a very dependable vehicle. It's hard to value dropping $50k unless one really intends to use this vehicle in extreme conditions, and then of course things are going to break with that. I do like the uniqueness of the vehicle for sure. An Ascent for the same price would make more sense practically for us. Maybe should get both, that's still $40K less than one G-Class,

Is subie putting solid axles under the Ascent, has subie solved their ring issue? Coworker has a Crosstek and had to have a new engine put in since it was drinking a qqt of oil every 800 miles, 1 yr old with 10K miles on it, had to fight them for 2 months to get the approval and no he didnt get a free rental and it took a month to get a short block and 2 weeks to perform the swap. Also has Subbie solved all their blown head gaskets and rust issues, many co-workers at my place have them and they are plauged with those problems.

The biggest issue you'll have to deal with is what to do with yourself when you're not driving it. Don't know that I've ever felt an attachment to a vehicle like I do my Jeep.

I traded a BMW 128i for a JL Sport. I also read all these posts and was very concerned. I saw an unnerving amount of YouTube videos. I really looked into my wrangler before accepting the delivery. I was particularly worried about the steering issues because I experienced it on the wrangler that I test drove. My jeep has none of the issues that I have seen discussed on this forum. Even the welding is beautiful. I have been driving the wrangler for about a month. This car is awesome. I studied the warranty. Basically, it has 2 years for anything to come up. It will get fixed if it does.

I'm the same. My JL Unlimited Sport has been flawless. Welds are great, Steering good, etc. What is the MFG date of yours? Mine shows 7-18 on the door jam. But the Build Sheet shows JUNE PRODUCTION which I find weird lol.
