About two years ago, while driving across country, I saw this yellow, oily substance on my front driver frame just in front of the power steering gear box. Any idea what this is/was?

Recently I noted that the steering gear box was coated in oil. None of my fluids have been or are now low. I have not seen the yellow stuff again, but now this:

I cleaned the gear box of all oil and now after a 1000 mile trip ending last night, I see this:

This is a diesel. Directly above this is the air filter housing, under that are various lines. This could be running in channels or along lines and is dripping, or is blow back oil. Does anyone know what I will find when I dig into this? I have a two thousand mile trip coming up and would like to fix this at my destination. As I mentioned, none of my fluids are low and I have never seen a drip under the vehicle. Everything drives fine.

Maybe engine mount leak? Wranglers have liquid filled engine mounts to help provide better dampening.

Looks like a power steering hose leak. Identify the fluid by smell.

Here is a photo of what the fluid looks like from a leaking engine mount. This is from a Cherokee

Thank you. That is very similar. I will check my motor mounts. This very well could be two different problems.

Wow that’s some nasty looking fluid. I’d be fine with some non fluid filled engine mounts.
