i know there is a plethora of information on here about lifts, wheels, backspacing..etc.... a ton of stuff to read and somewhat confusing. Is it better for me to pick out my lift before i get wheels? Do manufactures have different wheel backspacing specs for their particular lift kits?

It’s always a good idea to have a plan! Think about your motivation behind wanting to lift and how you plan to use your rig. Pick your lift, tires and wheels accordingly. Plan according. And as far as getting it all done, let your wallet dictate the when.

You should get your wheels and tires first, and if you plan on doing any fender modifications, do that before a lift as well.

Shock length dictates everything else and you don’t know your shock lengths until you know how much bump stop you need and you don’t know how much bump stop you need until you do your wheels/tires/fenders and cycle the suspension.

The learning and individuality that goes into picking out new shoes may take you a very long time so start there in my opinion.

First choose tire height for your needs, that will determine your lift height. Next choose tire width, that will determine your back spacing and will narrow down your wheel options. Next, research desired set up, what works and what doesn't, and what others have experienced. It's a process, but the more information you absorb, the easier your choice will be. But most importantly, have fun with it and get stoked for new parts. That's part of what jeepin is all about.

Thanks for the replies, all good thoughts and suggestions for sure. Ive already narrowed down some rims, i just need to figure out the offset. i have a jlur and ill probably end up with 37s. I want to fit in my garage so i dont think i can go bigger than a 2.5 lift. i will highline my fenders and would like to have a somewhat aggressive stance, maybe 1.5 to 2 in out of the fender. im a noob when it comes to this stuff.

Or be like me and some others and run spacers with stock wheels after doing a lift. I’d rather spend that $1000+ on something else for the vehicle over wheels

4.5 “‘backspace is the sweet spot on the rubicon. You don’t have to worry about spacers or adjusting turn stops, etc... yours will be a 2-3” inches higher roughly, with soft top, but mine is 78” on 3.5” and 37s.
