When you have tires installed & balanced, or re-balanced, do you prefer the weights on the inside or outside of the wheel, or no preference wherever the technician put them?

I think it would be nice to have them on the inside but is this a disadvantage not being able to visually see if you're missing a wheel weight? Or if one goes missing there would be an obvious vibration and then look behind the wheel to confirm its gone.

Your preference, pros & cons?

In my cars I prefer stick on barrel weights. In my trucks with larger tires or jeep I prefer balancing beads.

I never put them on the outside..I guess on a steel wheel might not be a big deal but otherwise looks terrible on the outside. if worried about losing one just mark the area one the inside where the weights are.

Stick on weights, more toward the center of the wheel width. Also have them Road Force Balanced.

If steel wheels, nothing beats the accuracy of the hammer on weights. On alloy wheels, you really don't have much of a choice. The only thing I want is, if the wheel/tire combo calls for more than 4 oz of weight, to re-clock the tire on the wheel and try again until it's preferable less than 3 oz per wheel.

I wish most installers would pay attention to the dots the manufacturer puts on the tire. It tells them which way would be good to start off with.

Thanks a lot Bill. I really appreciate this information. I wasn't familiar with either.

were you using the valve stems that are meant to be used with balancing beads?

I had balancing beads, didn't like it. Beads would get stuck in the valve stem core. Had them cleaned out and went with stick on weights.
