Wheel Locks

Do folks use these? I have a set from a previous Jeep. I am curious if they actually do a good job of preventing your wheels from being stolen. They one that is the easiest to steal is the spare hanging off the back. The only time it would be a concern is when traveling and staying at different hotels on my way to Colorado.

I use Gorilla locks. I buy the 24 pack so I can replace the lugs on all tires including the spare. Maybe overkill, but $125 to keep my wheels, yea, I think so.

What I like about Gorilla is you can order extra keys (they give you the number).

If the wheel lock sticks out significantly past the rim, you can use a pipewrench of even channel locks to take them off. There have ones where there is a collar around the lug so if you try the channel lock trick, it just spins.

If the thief really wants your wheels, they are gonna get them. the idea is to make it so inconvenient, that they move on to someone else's who's setup is easier to take (no locks).

Yes - some of them are the stock mushroom shape, others are acorn shaped. You'll have to know what type goes with your wheel.

Thanks. I know it should be obvious but I’ve never had to pair lug nuts with wheels before. Always ordered them together.

I posted this question to another thread on this subject. Does anyone know if the 24 pack fits on the XR wheel set. I assume it will but would like confirmation. Gorilla has a newer lug that has the outer part which spins unless your key is inserted and connects with the inner part. They only come in a pack of 4 which seems crazy if you want them on all of your lugs. You would end up with 4 or 5 keys to keep track of.

What is the point of one on every lug? If one can be defeated, then they all can, no?

Having a locking lug on every wheel will slow down anyone trying to steal my wheels. They will likely go on to another Jeep. The locks are by no means theft proof, just deterrence.

I presume its a standard Mopar lug, so yes (and they have both 24 packs in both styles). You can double check the Part Number.

If you really want the one that only comes in a 4pack, I'd suggest contacting a dealer that has them and saying you want matching keys. So one key would fit all lugs. although if you go to 24, I doubt you'll need the spinning ones - if you're in that type of hood, they'd probably take the whole Jeep!

Thankfully I do not live in a high crime hood. I am only concerned while traveling. Now the only question is black or chrome? My wheels are black with chrome lugs currently and they look fine but black might look even better.
