What Is This Box?

Has anyone researched and measured to put a black or gray marine access panel on the top? The white plastic structure could be removed inside and then turn it into a storage cubby to stuff rain jackets or something.

Well hell, I thought it must be something for the new side Airbags...Forced me to change sides and install the JL Audio Stealthbox on the passenger side. Tempted to order pre-'24 trim and just replace it when I remove the Alpine sub and install the OEM cargo floor cubby and storage lid, just want to know a little more about exactly what it's for...

JL Audio Stealthbox fits fine on passenger side and does not interfere with seats folding...
