ESS is disabled unless you are in a gear in the 3.6L with the auto. If you put it into Park or Neutral ESS will be disabled, the engine will idle. If you leave it in drive, set the parking brake, and get out, auto park will put it into park for you and ESS will be disabled.
If you stop, let ESS shut off the engine, open the door, put the Jeep in park and then shut the door, ESS is still in some operational state. I do this when I pick my wife up from work. When we are ready to go I put the Jeep in drive and the engine starts. I have not sat long enough to see if ESS would start to charge or warm the cabin in this situation though. She usually only makes me wait a minute or two.

But if he had done this I would expect that the engine would have been warm and it sounds like it was not.

Is your foot on the brake the entire time in that scenario?

7 AM today, wife tells me my Wrangler is running. This is a 2019 Sport, 3.6 AT, no remote start. Has 1700 miles. It was parked overnight in the driveway. The fob was inside. When I went out, it had stopped. The hood was covered in frost and fuel gauge was reading what it had when I parked it last night, so it clearly wasnt running all night. Gear shift was in park. When I tried it, it started normally.

Anyone have any possible explanation?
CLEARLY itā€™s cats. You must have cats. Our cats donā€™t just change the TV channel; they literally REPROGRAM the remote - repeatedly. I know when itā€™s about to happen, because I will see them gazing at the ceiling motionless, communicating with the mother ship, receiving instructions.

Not sure if it helps at all but I read about some BMW guys mentioning this with their new 3 series. G20 on bimmerpost if you want to try find it. Last I checked, no solution.

Maybe the Jeep was just telling you it was time to go out and play.

Mike, they can be insidious, devious little things. They have special powers...and tinfoil hats will not protect you from their limited mind control. ;)

Donā€™t you mean UNlimited mind control?
Tanner, youā€™re probably right, brother. They only make me THINK itā€™s limited.

Hi Mike,
We understand why this may be concerning. Should this continue to happen and you decide to have your dealer look into this, feel free to send us a PM. We would be happy to connect you with a Case Specialist to work with you and your dealer.

reading through all the fun poke the OP I have a concern. hows your neighborhood? gated community? bad area? many stolen cars? crime rate? you know with the Push to start there is common thieves that have made a repeater to pick up the signal of the key fob in the house and send it to a second device and person that is next to to vehicle and allows them to unlock and start the car. Could be them testing it out and your wife spooked them by turning a light on or off in the house?. i'd check security cameras if you have them or a neighbor has them? and see if anyone was near your home and or jeep when it started. Just my opinion.
