Weird Behavior When Re-Starting with ESS?

No - but as Morton noted, it's not that big a deal for me since I don't ever intentionally use ESS (only use it when I forget to push the button).

Could just get a programmer and delete it. But as long as it really isn't bothering you, I wouldn't spend the extra money, unless of course you want the other cool features a programmer can offer

Open the door before you put it in park, it will not restart.

I just stop and put it in park before it has the chance to shut off.
