I’ve tried to eliminate any metal other than aluminum pulleys. The MasterPull ABS winch puck is just to keep the synthetic line tensioned and is removed with a pin when the line is in use. I modified the end of the Warn winch line to be a 6” soft eye for attaching soft shackles.

After checking into this and watching their video on IG about it, I’m sold! Thanks for enlightening me on this. Happy to switch out from the heavy metal hook. I just need to learn how to make a soft loop myself. I get the science behind it.

Ignore all the obvious promotional elements in this video. When I unburied my warn winch line I took a pic of how it was tapered.

Here is what I follow to tie a new loop without removing the line from the winch.

If winching from the cab, put the hood up.
I put a Toyota between me and the vehicle I am winching. Let the Toyota absorb the potential winch line impact. In a perfect world.

I think winching the Toyota out miles of trail to get it into position may slightly increase the risk though...
