I have tried everything. Two different thumb drives (128GB each) and a regular thumb stick. Either it doesn't see it or it says an error.

Have you tried another port? I don't believe all of the USB ports will read music and send it to the radio but I could be wrong.

I've tried all ports. I even used an adapter for the usb-c port. Currently, I am going to try a brand new (smaller) thumb drive and see what happens. Worst part is I just the Jeep today.....

So the dealer ordered the rear media hub ports and this seemed to fix my issue. They all work now and the middle compartment one (USB 2) also works now.

So it didn't work that one time after having it at the shop but then at night decided to plug in my wall adapter for iphone charger on the back USBs and it turned everything back on almost as it if somehow reset it (I know weird huh). So far every single USB plug including the middle one has been working. Been a month now, so maybe what they did at the shop worked or maybe not but after a month, no problems

Please explain this ... you plugged your iphone CHARGER into the JLU's, USB port. I'm curious...

I'm reading this as you plugged in your 120 VAC iPhone wall adapter into the JL's 120 VAC outlet located on the back of the JL console. I did this too when I wanted to fast charge my S8+. :)

One member has verified that they had no issues using a 128GB USB drive for music. You can play music from either a USB drive or directly from the music stored on your phone.
I could not get a 128G to work in any port. So I went to an 8G and it worked in the USB 1 port, 16G worked. 64 G works in the USB 1 as well so tried it in the USB 2, dead, USB 3, dead, USB 4 dead.........

Time to give it to the deal;er and have them fix it..... LOL

I'm exploring this stuff for the first time too, being a CD player in the vehicle kind of person.

The passenger side, back of the console usb port is a charge only port ... i.e. will not play music. The other 3 USB sets of ports (Type C and A) should play music. See attached from pg 556 of the owner's manual.

There is no technical info on the electrical properties of these USB ports. Can't figure out if Type A ports are USB 2.0, 3.0 or 3.1.

However, I've read the issue with 128GB drive is the drive needs to be reformatted in FAT32. FAT32 is intended for memory devices up to 32GB, but one can execute a DOS cmd and format any size USB device to FAT32 ... which takes a really long time to do ... then that USB should work in the JL. If it does not, then the largest USB drive might be restricted to 32GB.

I've read this article from MS on this subject and I'm going to try it tomorrow. Apparently, FAT32 was made for memory devices as large as 20MB initially ... its a defacto std for a long time and very inefficient for today's GB devices:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-files/formatting-usb-drive-to-fat32-file-in-windows-10/5d50af44-9dc0-4024-bfec-2e095bb22caf

Right now, trying to figure out how to get a folder structure (artist, album, song, genre) to be copied to the USB and recognized by the JL's media player. My USB drive has a sequence of 314 songs with no way to sort by artist, album, song or genre via JL's Media Player. Good luck.

Oh crap that sounds complicated. So if you are running a tablet with a mapping program and the data is coming from a 128 g micro sd card on an android platform it sounds like the jeep may not handle it. Similarity to avoid all that reprogramming of the fat 32. Maybe it’s just safer to use a smaller sd card. Say 32? How many songs fit on 32g sd car?

What if you have an apple computer do you still have to reformat the drive. I would think so but how?

On the old my gig in my 2008 jk u rubi I had over a thousand songs easily. Identifiable playable by random all songs or individual play lists. Wish the jl was that simple
