Why would it be so much more than the JL?

One of the FCA reps (can't remember which one) said the plan was to make the Gladiator intentionally expensive for no other reason than they can.

On the Gladiator Forum members are guessing anywhere from cheaper than a JL (fools) to the same price, to 3,500 more. I think they will all be shocked.

I think what I find amazing is that it's only March and your Union has told you to prepare for a strike when negotiations aren't scheduled to begin until late Summer. Sounds to me like you guys have your minds made up to strike regardless.

The shutdown to retool for the hybrid engine has been moved up. We will now be shutdown April 18th to May 13th. (Subject to change)
We are working 7 days a week until then.

The Government order for just over 7k JT's has been verified. These 7k units must be built before any can be sold to public consumers. JT is going to go on a critical launch mandatory 7 days a week for up to 3 months if needed to complete orders. No announcement on when the launch will start. Rumor is 2-3 weeks.

Some of you know that this is the last year of our contract. If you have heard anything that happened during the last contract then you know there was a lot of corruption with both FCA and UAW. Some people have went to prison and some are still being investigated. There is a lot more to it but to much to explain. UAW has increased the strike fund and we all have been told to put some extra money away because it's very likely that we will be striking. Negotiations don't start until end of summer.

I personally hope that we don't strike but we are not going to let FCA continue taking things away from us.

I hope you don’t strike as FCA will pay you and then look to save the lost funds by cutting their cost and products realibity.

With the future shutdown for retooling, how will this JL production? Just curious because I placed my order 3/8.

Where I work, if there's a strike the President himself steps in to resolve the issue to avoid any major economic impact. Agreement employees at my work worked for an additional 4 or 5 years (I think) after their contract had expired before it came to a resolution. Although I'm non-agreememt, I wish you the best. I just hope the possibility of a strike doesn't affect the quality of the product.

That would be my fear as the current quality isn’t the best.

Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne told us as much back in January when he said Jeep’s newest project, a pickup truck many are dubbing a ‘Scrambler’, would be “expensive, intentionally so.”

It is something Marchionne describes as a lifestyle vehicle, designed to carve out its own market niche away from that of current midsize trucks by General Motors or Ford. Maybe even Toyota and Nissan.

“The reality is from a price standpoint, it’s completely out of (that price) range,” Marchionne said. “The (Jeep truck) consumer is somebody who appreciates the attributes of a Wrangler and who has a need for additional storage equipment. It’s a unique vehicle.”

I remember when we all heard that but I'm not sure how to parse it. The JL is already a "lifestyle vehicle" that's more expensive than midsize trucks. I'm one who thinks it'll be $3500 more than an equivalent JL. Hopefully that's the case (or it's less), because I want one. A rep at an auto show said a fully-loaded Rubicon would be $60,000 IIRC. That would put it in that range.

Depending on when their contract time is, it’s not unheard of to start talks this early to see what the company is looking for and what the people want. Takes time to go back and forth, especially when shift work is involved. Have to have multiple meetings to make sure everyone hears and can voice their concerns or suggestions

If the union is saying prepare for the worst, it’s because they are getting the feel of the company wanting to dig their heels in and not move forward or they want a lot of concessions

When would you suggest such planning start then? My Dad preached the 7 P's to us - Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss-Poor Performance. 6 months actually seems pretty conservative to me, but then I'm just used to planning. My business signs 3-5 year software license contracts - if we aren't planning out our options at least (at LEAST!) a year before they expire we are dropping the ball. As I've watched different management regimes cycle through I've watched some of them drop that ball, usually with disastrous results.

Now, wondering how the actual info the OP was kind enough to share before politico's ran this thread off the rails is going to impact realistic delivery timeframes going forward.

Thanks for posting the exact information. I have a feeling there will be price tag shock. Hopefully I am wrong.

$3500 difference would still be expensive, but not insane. I could live with that.

Auto show reps are worthless for good information. I'm surprised they even threw a number out there, usually their pre-rehearsed line is "we're not allowed to speculate"

A BIG THANK YOU FOR UPDATING THE Gladiator Site too ! Many "over their" are punch-drunk silly and bored. at the same time, with nothing meaty to digest ! My hopeful guess is that a nice Sport S is gonna run ~ $3500 above a comparable JLU.
I'm patient, but with this Government order looks like with or without a strike . . . gonna be Later than sooner for Civilians to get theirs . I don't mind that the Fed's get first crack at the "lemon batch" !
Unions have always gotten a bad rap . . . it has always been "Union Boss Corruption Issues" ! Don't need to be a Union to have Boss Corruption Issues . . . do I need to state an example ? Enron comes to mind. Wall Street Banks & Investment Companies, also ring a bell ! the List is sadly nearly endless . . . very disheartening all the CORRUPTNESS in America and around the Globe ! One Big UNHappy Family of man WE are ! Just my 2 cents. GOOD Luck with trying to "level the playing field at the next "negotiating table" -- for THIS cause, I don't mind paying $100 dollars more for my next vehicle .
