Yep. I just tried again on a PC and it worked. 256gB USB stick formatted as NTFS. The update took about 20 minutes.
Beyond frustrated. Tried the library PC and it couldn't open the ZIP drive to get the files out to transfer them to my USB drive. Next... finding a person with a PC. Dealer said they would share the information for.... $250. I know I gave them a incredulous look!

You can buy a PC for less than that 😎

Here was my experience if it helps anyone out:
  • Extracted zip to an older 32GB thumb drive formatted with NTFS
  • Switched ignition to RUN, but did not start the engine
  • Turned on uconnect
  • Plugged in USB drive
  • Was notified of the update and clicked start/begin
  • Started timer
  • Started a "Outdoor boys" video on youtube
  • About 25 min in, the ignition turned off, so I promptly turned it back to run
  • Thankfully the update was still going
  • Updated completed ~41 minutes later

For you 2024+ guys... Our Wrangler is a 2023 but I just updated our 2024 Grand Cherokee again last night. Can't argue 4 free map updates per year. You'll need a large USB drive as the North American files are 17GB. Download to your computer, unzip, and copy the individual files (no folders) into the NTFS or FAT32 formatted USB drive. I've personally found NTFS works better. Engine must be running and it errors out for me if driving so I had to do it while parked in the garage. Enjoy!

Thank you for sharing this info.

The update went smoothly. :):)

I have an old, slow, crappy 32gb USB flash drive (the cap is cracked, the little holder that would hold a lanyard broke, it's a junk drive) Since it's all I had, I used it to update UConnect maps yesterday (took 45 minutes). A new USB 3.2 drive might do it quicker, and I just got new ones today. If someone wants to pm me and is willing to Zelle me shipping, they can have the old one.

Just wanted to take a few moments and thank you. I did get the thumbdrive (have a friend at the post office that got it to me early) I plugged it in and it finally worked. I thank you for saving me all the time, the money, and the efforts I was going though. You were correct...MAC based computer would have never worked... but 31 minutes I was up and beyond where my dealer should have had me 18 months ago. And to think they wanted to charge me $250 to make things right. I graciously and most humbly thank you for taking the time and the effort!!

Thanks for the heads up, OP! Did it today, 64gb stick formatted to ntfs…. After extracting to the stick after download, put it in and was asked do I want to upgrade. Drove around for a while, (about 30 minutes) Install completed with no issues.

Nothing for us UConnect 4 folks? (Pre-2024)

I’d install a map update if they offered one.

If memory serves me correctly, you UC3 & UC4 folks will have to pay for the map updates ;). I'm not sure what is 'powering' UC3 & UC4 nav, but in UC5 they switched to TomTom based navigation. This imho is much better than UC3 as we have a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the nav in that is less than impressive. I also read somewhere (I think), that they would be providing 4 updates per year for UC5, but I'm not sure how many years that will continue for.
