I'm fairly sure it's outdated by the time it's built.

One of the roads in my neighborhood went from one way to two way a few weeks ago. I quickly put that change into Google and now Google and Waze are correct. From what I understand you'll see that change in 2+ years...if you're willing to fork out a Ben Franklin+ for it.

And yes, I frequently update Google maps with details like that. The most significant change cut about five miles off the route due to how the DOT changed a major interstate intersection in Denver.
OK, I've done a little digging. @Ratbert was kind enough to share the street in question with me, and I confirmed that my map still shows it as one way. Apple maps also shows it as one way. I have not yet found a way to submit updates to TomTom.

I also dug through the map settings and it looks like it's a map version from September 2022. That's not good.

Again, this is for the 2024 model Uconnect 5 NAV feature. According to the Navigation service in Jeep Connect support:
https://fcagroup.my.site.com/gsdpv3/s/article/GSDP-MOTA-Maps-Over-The-Air

It suggests that map updates happen automagically "over the air" every six months, and incremental changes will happen "as you drive in new areas". I don't drive in Ratbert's area. :)

I will be contacting @JeepCares (case number 89295938) to see why I haven't received my 6 month update.

Now as far as "it is worth it"? That's for you to decide. Here's what Jeep says is the value of the NAV service (emphasis is mine):

https://www.jeep.com/uconnect/features/navigation.html

Available TomTom Traffic and Travel Services (Disclosure1)—including Traffic, Speed Camera Alerts, Electric Vehicle Services, Parking, Fuel Pricing and Weather—offer drivers reliable and timely information so they can get where they are going without any hassle. As a fully integrated system, routing and guidance will still function when internet connectivity is lost by using regularly updated backup mapping contained within the system. Smartphone-based systems cannot provide the same level of Navigation support. Standard with Uconnect® 5 NAV, the TomTom Navigation system lets you access useful information right at your fingertips, and over-the-air map updates guarantee access to the freshest maps, so you’ll always know the road ahead.
I want access to the freshest maps!

I am also investigating if updates can be manually downloaded. I have found this map update apparently from December 2023:

There are several factors at play.

In your screenshot, it says maps are released/updated every 6 months along with the incremental updates over time.

It clearly says that you need to buy a subscription for MOTA (Maps Over The Air). It also says you get 3 month free trial.

So unless you are in your free trial period or paying for MOTA, you aren't getting anything.

That's right. I am subsrcibed. I decided to try and it and see for myself if it's worth it. Otherwise I will cancel.

If it is anything like the crap updates they offer/offered for the older 8.4" NAV system, I think you'll be waiting a long time for nothing.

Good luck. Keep us posted as to whether Jeep Cares has an answer for you.

Yeah ... we'll see. The current map is already 18 months out of date ....

A year and a half old in a 2024? Holy crap. Fortunately the user experience is significantly better than in prior incarnations, but still, that's unacceptable IMO.

I already have a response email from support. They are instructing me to do a "radio reset" and "clear personal data". Good lord. Smacks of "is your computer plugged in?". ?

That's ridiculous. That's like saying you need to fully wipe/reset your cell phone to update it to the latest OS version.

I'm not a fan of factory NAV, but the one feature it provides is being able to wayfind without internet connectivity and without an external device connected.
The second feature is a benefit (what if I dropped my phone in a river or it got eaten by a bear lol?) but as for the first one, both google maps and apple maps now allow you to download sections of the map for offline use, as do the offroad-focused nav apps like OnX and Gaia. Of course, one needs to remember to do this before going off-grid.

But yeah, navigation is a crucial function so I don't mind having a backup.

I like the UConnect 4 navigation, but it definitely isn't perfect. The biggest issue outside of the ancient maps is the interface to enter destinations, especially through voice. But again, these units are now a decade old and despite UI updates and tweaks, they've aged poorly.

Found this (older) nugget in the Ram forums which seems to corroborate what I have learned.
https://www.ram-trx.com/threads/tomtom-map-updates-for-uconnect-5.13583/post-327698

We're sorry for any confusion on the Navigation feature and can help share some insight. You should have the Maps-Over-The-Air (MOTA) updates for a one-year trial with the Uconnect 5NAV system. TomTom Navigation will provide at least 2 full map updates per calendar year and the navigation will also update incrementally when customers drive to completely new areas as mentioned in a previous post. Also, the updates can be received when connected to a home WiFi network (recommended) or when it is available over the cellular modem.

I love the maps on my 2024 Rubicon X 4Xe. Large screen makes navigation so easy and living in an urban area where large multi-thousand home communities are always springing up.... my maps are always 100% up to date. I do not have to wonder when Google will update their maps or how far behind WAZE is. Tom Tom maps are always up to date, clear, and concise. Sure I pay for it... because it is quality for mere pennies.
I don't know about Google Maps timing, but Waze updates are nearly always going to be way more timely than the built in Nav, since you can update Waze yourself through their tool or through their forums like this. I've done it a few times myself. They are connected to the same gov't/DOT feeds so they get those in near real time, but the stuff that the gov't hasn't updated yet (and that can be slow to non-existent in some areas) are where Waze's community aspect really shines.
