I got the Quadratec Pre-Runner lights for my birthday and installed them just now. They aren’t turning on with the DRLs at advertised, nor do they turn on with ANY combination of lights (head lights, fog lights, hazards, turn signals etc). Every other exterior light on the Jeep works just like normal, so I don’t think I messed up the wiring. I attached a picture of the install, and of the wiring harness. Any ideas?

Following this. Those are in my Quadratec wishlist bucket so I will be interested to see how this plays out.

So I had misunderstood the listing on their website. They aren’t tied in with the DRLs, at least on my jeep. My running lights are the halos around the headlights, I don’t have them in the fenders. They’re tied in with the parking lights on mine (still not working). Planning on doing some more digging on Saturday morning. It’s too hot here in Vegas after work to do much work on the Jeep!

Ah...yeah, as I understand it they will illuminate whenever the standard parking lights are on. But you say even that is not working for you at the moment. Might be an issue related to you having the DRL Halos somehow. Curious to hear the outcome. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I talked to customer service and they gave me some troubleshooting ideas. I’m going to dig into it Saturday morning and see what I can find, I have a hunch it might actually be something with the Jeep wiring (long story, ill update the thread Saturday with my findings.)

UPDATE:

It occurred to me that while I was stationed in the UK, I had to have some work done on the lights to make the Jeep road legal over there. I know they messed with the front turn signals but I couldn't recall what they did. I did some testing with a multimeter and recorded the following results.

The Quadratec Pre-Runner Light Harness:
All wires have good continuity. I tested by shooting the pins on either end of the T harness, for example white #1 to white #1, red to red etc. All circuits had continuity, so I don't suspect the actual product of being defective. It's possible that there are bad splices in the harness (if any exist), but I don't suspect that because of the following.

Jeep wiring:

Using this wiring diagram we can see that the white/brown wire (labeled LEFT FRONT PARK LAMP DRIVER) should receive voltage when the parking lights are turned on. It does not. The white/orange wire should receive voltage under the same conditions, and it does not.

However I know that the parking and side marker lights work as turn signals, so I tested for voltage with the parking lights OFF and hazard lights ON. The white/brown (parking lamp) wire still doesn't receive power, but the white/orange (side marker) does receive voltage but only with turn signal/hazard lights turned on.

I interpret this to mean that at the BCM, the white/brown wire is probably removed from a connector to disable the parking lights, and that somewhere between the parking lamp connector (where the Pre-Runner lights loop in) and the parking lamp, the parking lamp wire is spliced into the side marker wire. Tomorrow morning I plan on removing the fender liner and digging around a bit more.

If my logic seems flawed or it sounds like I don't know what I'm doing (because I don't), let me know of any other ideas.

SATURDAY UPDATE:
As you can see in the photo, the white/brown wire is cut at the BCM, resulting in no power to the left parking lights and thus the quadratec pre runner lights. I’m assuming the wire for the right parking lights will be cut also.

I think messing with the BCM myself would probably be a bad idea. I have no way to reprogram it if I mess it up, and it’s too critical of a module for me to want to mess with.

At least the lights look cool even when they can’t turn on. It’s too bad I already cut the grille insert to install the lights, so taking them out isn’t really an option.

Anyone think a layman like me could fix this? Or should I take it to a professional?

How much room do you have to access both ends of the cut wire?

I took that photo laying on my back in an awkward position. I’d have to remove the BCM to access those connectors, and even if I fix the wiring the BCM may need reprogramming which I have no tools/knowledge to do.

Glad to learn it was not a Quadratec product issue...but also sad to hear of your wiring dilemma caused by previous work.

Cutting the grill is what has been holding me back on this but the simple plug and play is really appealing. The new style Oracle pre-runner kit requires no grill cutting, but does require some wire splicing.

I understand the apprehension around cutting the grille but if you decide you want to remove the lights and go back to a clean grille, new grille inserts are about $15 a pop so not the end of the world in my opinion.

I will say that the install of the Quadratec lights is a bit more of a pain than their install video makes it seem. It’s still not hard, but fishing the wire harness from the radiator area all the way back to where you connect it was a bit challenging. In total it probably took me about an hour and a half to fully install them.

They look cool and I’m sure yours will work unless you’ve had your wiring messed with like I have!

Excellent point on simply buying new grill inserts...I had not even thought about that. Duh.

If you feel like you can get a few inches of the wire on each side then I would try to repair the wire and see what happens. It's unfortunate that they cut the wire instead of changing the country code in your settings, but I believe that this might mean that the BCM is still set for the US. Why else would they cut the wire?

These wire connectors already have heat shrink and solder in them, and should be ideal for this.

Good tip. I’ll have to remove the BCM and see if the connector is still pinned with some wire exposed, and then a solder sleeve would be a great idea. Looks like the BCM is held in by 2 easily accessible bolts.
