With just over 3,400 miles on my Rubicon the transmission developed a massive leak. When I stopped for gas I noticed a small puddle on the ground when walking back. I took it straight to the dealer and made them immediately wash it since there was transmission fluid covering the undercarriage and all of the paint on the back from the wind. I'm concerned that I may have a dead transmission from doing 70 mph on the highway with little or no fluid and there could be damage to the paint from the transmission fluid covering it. I've noticed a few others posting with similar issues. Has anyone determined a cause. What does FCA have to say? Replacing the transmission after 3,400 miles is going to destroy the resale value on a pretty expensive vehicle. This will be the 3rd time it's been back to the dealer for different defects in just over 60 days of ownership. Not happy!

Hi RubiRedJL,
We are truly sorry that you are experiencing this with your Jeep. Please send us a private message if you would like any additional assistance while your Jeep is at your dealer. We would be happy to have a case escalated for you so a Case Specialist can work with your dealer to help find a potential solution to this.

That sucks, can you tell where it was leaking from. Also keep us posted how the fix or replacement works out for you.

According to the dealer, the output shaft from the transfer case, the seal for the output shaft, and the seal between the transfer case and transmission need to be replaced. They are unable to determine why it was leaking. They tell me they were not able to find any damage inside the transfer case. On the plus side I don't need a new transmission, but the transfer case now makes me very nervous.

When getting my jeep back from the dealer we walked around it and noticed the black finish is coming off of the freedom top in 6 places on the very back where the transmission fluid was coating it after the leak. The spots are strangely colored with various shades of purple, orange, red, and what looks like rust. The service manager took pictures and is submitting them to Chrysler for a determination. There are also 3 small spots in the paint behind the spare tire where the paint appears to have bubbled. Does anyone else have problems with the finish coming off of their top? On my previous post I listed the output shaft as the location of the leak. The paperwork from the dealer last night listed the input shaft and input shaft seal as the problems and both were replaced along with the seal between the transfer case and transmission. By their estimate 2 of the 6 quarts of fluid in the transfer case had leaked out. They assured me there was no damage inside the transfer case, but time will tell.
