Agree with most of what you said. My first Optima was great. Next two Optimas not so much. Now running an Odyssey in my YJ.The Optima is a good choice, too.

Yeah, I'd put Optima behind the other two, as well. I've got a Northstar (Batterie's Plus version) in my JK and an Odyssey in the JL. Both are doing great. The Northstar in my JK is at least 5 years old now and strong.Agree with most of what you said. My first Optima was great. Next two Optimas not so much. Now running an Odyssey in my YJ.
I frequent two EV discussion boards for other brands and I don't see this. And message board people trend VERY negative.Regardless….EV’s are more reliable from a powertrain (mechanical perspective) where there are less moving parts. However, an EV’s power source (its actual source of power) isn’t. The amount of failures of EV batteries is totally underreported. You can get the info from the manufacturers through FOIA.
This is such a poor boomer argument as if mechanical failures don't occur often. How many gas powered cars end up on the side of the road? This is why I am not for EV’s….they just aren’t there yet in terms of reliability. People can argue all they want about EV’s being the future, but it will be a long, loooooong time before EV’s are the norm. We just aren’t there yet with battery technology. Yes, they work, but it’s more of an incomplete science project than it is a solution. Whatever, to each his own.
Not sure how long you've lived out here but I've never had a battery last 2 years since moving here. Our high heat kills them fast! My Ranger was dead in 20 months and before that my Tacoma in roughly the same time. I keep a battery maintainer on (if it sits longer than a day or two) which helps but this is the price we pay for living on the face of the sun. ? Hopefully that's all it is.I've read about the sudden and total electrical failure and today experienced it. Driving along just fine when every warning light and message came on, wipers came on, lost power steering and who knows what else. Fortunately I was in a place where I could easily pull over and stop. Put it in Park and it wouldn't shut off. Nor would it come out of Park. Wipers wouldn't turn off. After about 5 minutes everything seemed to go back to normal, except still stuck in Park. I shut off and restarted. Put in Drive and in about 10 seconds it all happened again. Couldn't shut off for another 5- 10 minutes. Then it wouldn't restart at all. Still had power as the dash message stayed on and I charged my phone while waiting for a tow.
I searched for previous posts about similar problems but can't find them. I don't remember if there was a consensus on the solution. Right now it's sitting at the dealer waiting for diagnosis.
My first experience with Jeep road service was also disappointing. I refused to complete my request via the internet and took 3 tries to actually talk to someone. The tow service they contacted said it would be 90 - 120 minutes. I googled the company and read several of their 1 star reviews. All they had were 1 star reviews. Almost everyone talked about their slow response, no shows and damage to vehicles. I canceled and arranged my own with a 5 star service that was there in 45 minutes and even gave me a ride home.
I'll be waiting anxiously to hear from the dealer service department.
In my case there was no warning. ESS has always worked, to include at a stop 1/4 mile before everything failed. Never any indication of a low battery. Is this something that is common? Are there any warning signs that lead up to this? I ask because my ESS doesn't work anymore - screen says the battery is charging or not active because the engine is still warming up. And 2 days ago my sound system wouldn't work. It turned on but just wouldn't play any audio. I just turned the jeep off and on and while driving it corrected itself. I'm just wondering if I should just replace the batteries now while I'm "ahead". The volt meter reads above 14 amps when on, but my little battery (if I have one.. don't know if all JLs have this set up.. I have a 19 JLUR with the 3.6) may be gone already.
I've been in Arizona for 20 months. I brought 4 vehicles with me that had 2 - 5 year old batteries. They're all still going strong. I bought the Jeep 18 months ago. Took delivery 2 days after it came off the train. If this is a battery failure Jeep must use the cheapest batteries known to man.Not sure how long you've lived out here but I've never had a battery last 2 years since moving here. Does that reset oil life and other stored data (stations, mpg?).For some of you guys who have had weird electronic glitches, get a Tazer JL. You can reboot the Uconnect with it. I used to have some wonky behavior out of that thing. Now not so much but I also reboot the thing about every 2 to 3 weeks. Takes about 2 minutes. I'm convinced it clears some things up and frees up ram. For example, at one point the rear view camera wouldn't come on. Reboot. Worked fine.
It is certainly worth a try, particularly for things related to the Uconnect and things controlled or viewed on the screen.
Just a suggestion. Probably won't cure bigger things, but I think it could help in some of these smaller strange occurances.
