Tire size recommendation

Hey everyone,

I’ve done some research and wanted to get some opinions. I have a 2.5” lift currently, with 285/75r17 tires and 17x9 black rhino wheels, currently pictured.

I feel the tires look too small. Any opinions on that? Maybe go with a MT tire instead of an AT?

Or should I move up to a set of 315/70r17 or 35x11.50r17s? Should I go with Pro Comp 7069 to drop wheel weight (mine weigh 30 pounds each now).

I know it’s recommended to regear at 35s with the 3.45 gearing. I do have the 3.6 with 8 speed auto and live in FL.

Strictly from a visual perspective, I would definitely go up a size. From a mechanical perspective, many do it without upping the gears and it may be fine in the flatland that is Florida if you aren't planning much off road use. There are others here with far greater knowledge than me that will have more educated answers than mine.

Nice looking build! If you're more into looks go with the bigger tires- in FL you shouldn't have any problems with gearing. If it were me I'd stay with your 285/75/17s but I prefer function over form so take my advice with a grain of salt. My next set will be 285/75/17 E Trail Grapps for better traction in the mud.

I think it looks great as is. I run a Dynatrac 2" lift and 285/75/17 OC A/T3s. Park next to a Jeep with 35s and visually there isn't much difference at all. Your 285/75/17s are closer to a full 34" than a 35" is to an actually 35". Most of them are 34.5....... All that money for 1/2 inch in tire? no thanks.

The fenders help create the discrepancy that you are seeing. But the tire size looks pretty good to me. Lots of room for articulation. What fenders are those BTW?

Rig looks great as is. Any bigger tire and 100% recommend re-gearing it.

At least with Ruby 4:10 gears and AT, not necessary for up to 40's.

thanks! They’re the Rough Country High Clearance fenders. Solid construction for $299 a set. I had actually considered removing them to help the gap but realized the oem light mount was cut so that wouldn’t work lol.

Loosing quite a bit of torque and mpg with that combo and really working the torque converter. All in all Great looking rig though! I’m actually dropping my jeep off Monday to make the jump to 4.88’s but my Jeep is a 6speed.

315/70r17 or 35 arent that much bigger than your 285/75r17. Unless you put two side by side, you won't be able to tell the difference.

But 4:1 xfer case and 4.10 gears provide more than enough torque to climb vertical in M2, although I always drop to M1. I don't think you're loosing much if any MPG from a higher 1st gear. Certainly not enough to pay for the gas savings. I when from 24 to 22 going to the bigger tires, probably mostly from aerodynamic drag. It's a dedicated crawler so MPG isn't a consideration. With my aggressive use of MSS (Manual stop/start) on the trail, I get much better milage than the other folks who leave it running every time we inspect and walk the line.

If you can get a 35x11.5 for nominal price, that would be fantastic. Otherwise stick to 285/75/17 - you arent losing much. The 315s bring in all sorts of other problems in clearance.
