Curious if anyone has experienced this....Yesterday while starting up our Rubicon, the throttle seemed to be stuck wide open...I immediately pushed the stop button and turned it off (so no damage), then tried starting it again....again full throttle....hit the button to stop it. The third time I started it, everything was normal. WTF? Nothing was touching or impinging the accelerator on the inside of the jeep...I checked that immediately after it happened the first time. Makes me kind of nervous....if it had happened with my wife....might have been a blown engine or much, much worse.....

Jonathon, long time no talk.

Thankfully, I never experienced that on my JLUR because I would've freaked the hell out. That is quite the serious issue!

My Challenger did it once.. I pushed in the clutch and pulled over on an on ramp while hitting the off button...It didn't/won't shut off until you are almost stopped/below 5 mph.. You should try it while driving!

Hi Pugfug,

We're sorry to hear this! If you continue to experience concerns, we recommend contacting FCA Canada at 1-800-465-2001 to report the issue. They should be able to assist you regarding this.

Holy crap! This happened while you were driving. How did FCA respond? Let me guess ā€œcan not duplicateā€.

From the JL manual...
If the vehicle speed is above 5 mph (8 km/h), the ENGINE START/STOP button must be held for two seconds (or three short pushes in a row) to turn the engine off. The ignition will remain in the ACC mode (NOT the OFF mode) if the engine is turned off when the transmission is not in PARK

Pretty serious stuff. The Toyota throttle issue isn't forgotten.

Have you checked your floor liners? I cleaned my Mustang's floor and did not get the driver's liner snapped into place. When I got in, my feet slid the loose liner forward. The liner's front is curved upward to match the firewall.
The loose liner slid up onto the gas pedal. When I started the engine, the rpms shot up toward the redline.
At first I didn't know what was causing the problem. My neighbor walked over and looked at the liner...sure enough, it was pushed over the pedal. He said it is quite common with boat shaped floor liners that are not correctly snapped down into place.

I just experienced the same issue when starting my 2019 JL. Nothing stuck under the pedal just wide open throttle response. I hit the stop/start button quickly and it restarted it with no problem. I know this post is a few months old so I was wondering if there have been any other reports of similar issues lately. Don't like seeing this on a new vehicle with less than a 1000 miles on it.

Happened once to me (3.6 MT) a couple of months ago. Cut the engine off and hasnā€™t happened since. (Sport, not a Rubicon).

I think it is a glitch with the 'drive by wire' system. I have the same issue; it seems to only happen in neutral. I always double clutch when I downshift, and if I accidentally give it too much revs when I bump the throttle, it will stick at around 4-5K rpms for up to 30 seconds. Its super annoying but I don't think it happens in gears (although I have never completely floored it).

This has happened twice now on my 2018 JLU Sahara 3.6 6sp M, 17k miles. I was in WV, three weeks ago, I shut the vehicle off and parked for about 10 minutes, went to start the vehicle (clutch down, foot on brake, gearshift in N) and RPMs maxed out (full throttle), immediately pressed the stop button twice and shut engine down. I inspected the throttle pedal and it was all the way up and there wasn't anything touching the throttle (floor mat in proper place, nothing in the way). Three weeks later, it happened again, just about an hour ago. Same scenario, parking brake set, right foot on brake pedal only, clutch depressed. I went to start the vehicle and the engine went to full throttle and I had to quickly press the STOP button twice to get it to shut down. Full RPM's is never good for an engine. I'm headed to the dealer tomorrow! The first time i thought was a fluke; however, when it just happened again, it's scary

Dealer could not find a problem, error codes, or anything abnormal. They performed a refresh of the code on the engine (throttle) module. Problem has not reoccurred; however, it only happened twice in 5k miles. Fingers crossed it won't happen again.
