I picked up my 2nd JL in December and it's doing this weird throttle surge after a cold start. After starting I always let the RPM's drop down to 1k or a little under before driving. As soon as I come to a stop for a sign or whatever it will rev to 2k on its own with the tranny in neutral. This will only occur once or twice, and it's only after a cold start. Is this some kind of heat the catalytic converter, emissions thing on the 2023? My 2020 has never done this and both are identical, 3.6l manuals

I've had this as well, was wondering if it was attempting to rev match the next gear. If you move the shifter toward the next gear I've noticed it stops. Very strange. Only on a cold engine and I drive down a steep hill leaving work. In neutral I'm at ~1800 RPM until I come to a stop or try to advance the shifter into 3rd.

I am having this issue too. It will actually cause the Jeep to speed up when just coasting in 2nd gear. My Rubicon has a manual transmission. It appears you are also driving with a manual transmission. For me it does not matter if the temperatue is below freezing or in the 60's, it still happens every time I start with the engine cold...

Happens on my 23 Rubi as well. It was always weird. I wait to drive under 1k as well, and I find that after driving about 1 mile, everything calms down.

Very weird indeed.

I realize this is months old. However, I experienced the same issue several times. I auto start my jeep and by the time I realize it surging like crazy and run out to shut it down, there's a burnt rubber smell. Jeep dealer said it's a frozen throttle body from slush buildup and freezes hard overnight, and there is nothing that can be done. I wonder if it will damage anything. I live in extreme cold climate 6 months a year. Definitely concerning. Thoughts?

Sounds like you have something additional going on. I've gotten used to the surge and simply allow it to iddle for a few before driving. I have a manual transmission so no auto start, I also don't get abnormal rpm's at idle just cold catalyst driving
