Also, I assumed you were trolling us here, but your replies look like you might be serious. What was the over/under here on Aldo coming back?
The short of it is I miss driving a Wrangler.

I always knew I would; I just thought I’d last at least six months... ?

We shall see. I haven’t bought anything yet. For all I know, the dealer might piss me off and that’ll be that.

Ehem...sorry but those hideous 20-inch wheels and rubber band tires will be first to go.

I’ll need something that can get me comfortably through snow and local forest roads. I should be able to fit 255/75R17 KO2s, which overall measure roughly the same as the OE 255/60R20 all-seasons.
I went with stock rims and 35x11.5r17s. I saw no tangible decrease in electric range. At best might be a 1-1.5km loss. The power-train has hp and torque like there is no tomorrow.. it can move 37s without a fuss but then it defeats the purpose of why I got it.

I had been waiting for Toyota to publish its all-new 2024 Tacoma —and by extension Land Cruiser— MPG numbers. Turns out they are disappointing. Especially for hybrids.

A somewhat nearby Jeep dealer has some juicy discounts on 4Xe leases. They have several Saharas listed for $15,000 ($7,500 off + $7,500 instant credit/rebate).

I work from home and live in a small city of 90,000 people; most of my runs are 5 miles or less. Which means I should be able to go without fueling up for weeks.

I swore years ago I wouldn’t lease again but these discounts are tempting.

Thoughts?

Here’s my experience:

Not to mention the outstanding recall on a yet to be determined number of 4xe’s:

If you want to buy a Wrangler, get a gas one. If you absolutely must have a 4xe Wrangler, lease one. Just be prepared to be unable to use the EV functionality because of cold weather, recalls, broken heaters, and/or alignment of Jupiter.

Happy to hear you miss the wrangler so much that you're (already) considering one!

I'd suggest that if you go with a 4xe (the lease deals are really appealing!), refrain from "emotionally attaching" yourself too much to it/modding it too much until the warranty is over. Maybe think of it as the Jeep's trial period, if it behaves it gets to stay with you, if it doesn't it gets shipped back to FCA. So, make sure any mods are cheap and invisible, or are easily reversed.

You won't know if you got a lemon right away, and if you get one you should have plans to have alternate means of transportation - don't rely on Jeep providing a loaner/paying for a rental. I really hope you go for the 4xe, don't get a lemon and enjoy it for a long time!

And if you have to lemon-law it, do it swiftly and without mercy - don't be like me and let yourself be fooled by FCA and drag out the process for months.

It's perfect for someone with a 5 mile commute. Just don't park it inside of any structure you don't want to burn to the ground.
The current recall (which is so new there aren't any real details on it yet) is for '21-'23 model years. In theory, the dealer can't sell anything they have on their lot that is affected until it's fixed.

Sorry but I'm gonna lean on the side of Mopar's info being more accurate here.

Yes. I test drove a 4Xe years ago. The salesman suggested I mash the throttle to the floor; that didn't end well. The vehicle hesitated for several seconds while it decided what to do; then the 2.0T went screaming to the top of its lungs.

It was a total turnoff. I ended turning around, driving back to the dealership, getting out of the 4Xe and driving straight home. Besides, that is not how I normally drive Jeeps.

Two things that have me nervous:
  1. I continue to read posts from 4Xe owners having all sorts of electrical issues, and dealers seem unable to fix them in a timely matter
  2. My local Jeep dealer is worthless. I am looking to buy from a dealer in Seattle, 100 miles away. I don't even want to think what a nightmare it would be having to drive 100 miles multiple times to have the same thing fixed. Even worse, if the Jeep needs to be towed, Roadside Assistance would simply drop it off at the nearest Jeep dealer, which is simply atrocious
The 3 main issues are Electric Coolant Heater, which the fix it to replace the part, seems some dealers are disassembling a working 4xe, then tell the customer go home without your 4xe, we will call you when the part comes in, the 2nd is FORM, which basically seems to come from a few things, stale gas, also frequently starting the gas engine and not running it long enough, the vehicle still works, just cannot access pure electric driving, then the 3 issue the dealers are buggering up the updates and frying the batteries, from what I see in the forums these issues are rare.

As to #2, I only had to go to the dealership for oil changes 3 times and they did updates at the same time. This is my 6th Wrangler and I rarely went to the dealership with the previous 5, they were also trouble free, knock on wood for my 4xe.

I've been looking at the Mini, I would prefer an electric convertible 4 door, range doesn't matter to me either, a mini mainly so my wife can drive it. I currently mostly just joy ride my Wrangler, it's kinda underutilized for the money paid. But it's a lot of fun like any other Wrangler.

You can only go so long without a Wrangler, I strayed a couple of times a long time ago, makes you hate what you are driving when you see a Wrangler go by.

I would say the cold weather thing is a bit of a myth, especially for WA weather.

Sometimes I can run electric, but at -5c and it's cold, gas engine with the heater blasting is the preferred choice.

That said I run the majority of winter in pure electric, kids have on their snow suit in any case and I have the heated steering and seats, so no need to put on the heater.

Good for you. Mine doesn’t work in cold weather. I’ve got two seasons worth of winter issues to prove it.
