I am concerned about resale for all EV or hybrids. They are not holding value due to the tax credit on new, the cost of battery replacement, the technology obsolescence and the lack of long term data. At some point this will all normalize but for now the resale market for EV’s is tough.

Our electric provider is Pacific Graft & Extortion (PG&E) They have a tiered pricing system and when you hit the “excessive use” tier the price skyrockets and you are treated to nasty-notes and symbols about your “excessive use”!!! We routinely hit it in our hot summers as the usage they charge as “excessive” is as low as they can possibly make it. Add Electric Car Charging???NOPE!!!!
I have not seen a price difference in my electric bill. I charge every night. I have not used gas to speak of since I got it a month ago. I had a 3.6 eTorque Vvt prior to this and I can say that the 3.6 seems to be faster to me. Yes- lead foot. It seems like I am towing something driving the 4xe. Love that I have not used gas tho.

I think the 4xe might be a decent buy with the tax credit, but I'm skeptical it will hold value as well as an ICE Wrangler because of the potential for battery replacement being needed after a few years. That said, I don't know what warranty FCA offers on the main battery or its cost to replace, tho I've seen $12K+ thrown around.

I do know a local longtime Jeep salesperson that has driven Wranglers for years got one and refused to sell that model to customers due to the plethora of issues they had with it. They did it unload it on someone I guess cuz they don't have it anymore.

The 3 year rule of thumb still applies IMO, be it a 4xe or Bronco, buy on year 3 of a new model.

That said, I hope y'all have great luck with them. I looked really hard, but ultimately decided it wasn't for me. ?

I wouldn’t have gotten a substantial increase last month either, but in our 100+ summers with it all added to the confiscatory “excessive use rates” (of course only to promote conservation they tell us) I shudder to think! I don’t have a summer bill or I would report the difference but it’s huge!

If anyone is purchasing a car based on mpg, even the awesome 4XE isn't on the radar for them.
If you plan on driving all electric you can't possibly find a car with a shorter range at 21
If you want good mileage per gallon of actual gas the damn thing is actually worse than the same Jeep 2.0 without the electric at 20 mpg 4xe vs 22mpg without
I like the extra power you're gonna get for sure and if you have a home charger and actually use it everyday and your kw hour cost is low and your commute is less than the average american which currently sits at almost 30 miles per day then you can see a bit of savings for sure long term
Then again, the amazing number of people who have garages stuffed full of crap who currently have to park outside but do plan on cleaning that garage out and actually installing that charger and then actually using that charger......
I wouldn't bet too heavily on those folks and its a very large percentage
But I am sure the demand will go up as well as resale on the 4xe.... but hasn't that been for every single car over the last year ?
Hey, you have a real nice 4XE on the way, enjoy it for what it is and don't get too hung up on potential profit on it as hopefully you'll be enjoying that unit long enough that it'll be old and rusty by the time you give it up - Jeeps are for fun and adventure, when you get it you'll probably sell off that fancy Lexus and order another Jeep.
fyi - I'm just Jealous, wish I had a 4xe coming too ! ?
You're 100% right. I'm not planning on selling it anytime soon after I get it. Just curious about everything going on and how the 4xe will play. And yes, the Lexus is nice but it's a lower trim level grandma car haha. The 4xe on order actually is much more fancy which is one of the reasons for the upgrade. I had a lot of road trips to make over the last couple years and that part of my life is over and now I want to have more fun. So Jeep time it is! I'm sure the Tuscadero is pretty fun too! One of my favorite Jeep colors! Don't get to see them much on the road.

Surely the battery will last longer than a few years?

I would hope so, but I don't know. I haven't studied EVs much as our area has harsh winters and is not conducive to running EVs here.

And a large majority of our electricity is generated via coal plants, so it is not particularly green energy.

With the way gas prices and inflation is going, I don't think I've ever been happier about pulling the trigger on an order at the right time.

What do you think is the near future of the 4xe? Think demand and wait times will go up? Think resale will continue to climb?
Maybe. We have to balance the alleged desirability of the 4xe against its comparatively steep buy-in cost, vis-a-vis its comically modest 20 mile all-electric range. The modern buyer, connected as he is to everything, is probably savvy enough to make an informed decision about such matters. Objectively, a Prius or even a Nissan Leaf represents a much-improved value proposition. Under the harsh light of such reasoning, the 4xe in its current form is just another Wrangler.

I pretty much share the same opinion of PG&E as you.

And it sounds like you're not eager to switch to an EV.

But do be aware, should you make the switch, that PG&E has an EV charging rate package that's a lot lower - assuming you're charging "off peak." Like 21¢ KWh if-I-recall-correctly. Not cheap, but cheaper.

Check if you have Max Regen on that might be the "towing" feeling

Actually, with the EV push I should have suspected as much. But you are right, I don’t intended to give up my 392’s unless they are banned, even if fuel prices are pushed high enough for them to be unaffordable DD I will keep the Wrangler for a weekend V8 fix!

People are VERY shortsighted when it comes to gas prices. The market will soon start getting flooded with full sized SUVs and the like. It happened just that way last time gas prices shot up and they ran and bought those full sized SUVs the moment the gas prices came back down.

It could actually bring an even earlier end to this used car madness but yes, it could trigger a run toward hybrids and EVs as well. I doubt the 4xe will be front and center on the average hybrid shoppers mind though because it's more of a niche vehicle - that and the mpg isn't great on the 4xe anyway. Someone making this type of shortsighted, poorly thought out move will only care about that weekly fill up charge. I would guess a small blip in interest but probably not significant.

I'm wondering if this might put enough of a damper on 392 sales to bring those prices out of the upper atmosphere! I'm a gonna be watchin!

Could have bought a Shelby Cobra for $3995 but my father wouldn’t co-sign so I bought a 1 of 500 (HP360) 69 GTX for $2400 instead during the 70’s Arab oil embargo. Traded it for a Harley when we lost the 100 octane pump gas it required. If we only knew!:headbang:
