Hopefully only have about a month left before my 4xe arrives. With the way gas prices and inflation is going, I don't think I've ever been happier about pulling the trigger on an order at the right time. What do you think is the near future of the 4xe? Think demand and wait times will go up? Think resale will continue to climb?

I think the 4xe will hold a strange position in Jeep history.

I doubt it will be worth significantly more (if at all) than a similarly equipped Jeep a few years down the line. PHEVs and BEVs are advancing pretty quickly - I don't think it's unreasonable to see the next generation 4xe's with double the range due to a purpose-built platform instead of cramming batteries under the seats.

Plus, buying used doesn't get you the federal tax credit

Either way, most of my driving is short trips around town with a cross-country move every few years. I think a 4xe is perfect for that use case!

I was thinking the same thing down the road. Within a few years when a full electric Wrangler is released or like you said, a new platform with a huge range increase, it will most likely be in the same realm of any similarly equipped JL. But in the short term, the rest of this year, and maybe the next, with the push for electric vehicles and gas cost issues, it might be a commodity

I'm really wishing I'd pulled the trigger on a 4xe instead of the 2.0L that I went with, but I also think that used values aren't coming down anytime soon, and with the % off invoice that I paid for this thing, it's possible (maybe even probable) that I can unload it in ~2-3 years for nearly what I paid for it, at which point Jeep should have a fully electric Wrangler on the market.

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to summer - once school lets out, the daily reason for starting my vehicle (taking kids to school) disappears, so I can go a week or two at a time without ever starting it.

I really doubt it. The price of oil goes up, then down again. The 4xe will be popular for the fuel savings only to those people that are near-sighted. If you can't see past the end of your nose, then the fuel "crisis" will mean everything to you. For anyone else, we know the price of gas will fall directly.

True. I remember back in 2008 when everyone was quickly selling vehicles like Expeditions, Suburbans, H2s, V8 anything really. Jeep ceased production of the Commander. Seemed like that mentality lasted about a year or so. Cars like Prius and Civics were hard to get a deal on. But yes, it wasn't long before prices went back down and people started getting the "gas guzzlers" again. Although, that was a pivot year and engines like the EcoBoost were released within the next year.

Not a chance as your electricity is about to get more expensive as well and the 4xE is hardly a usable 'hybrid' in the sense that you can commute without needing gas. I'd offer its sales are 'high' because with tax incentives a 4xE is one of the best buys in the Wrangler line up.

There’s an interesting bit about how when people start to view their assets as an investment due to appreciating prices, demand goes up as prices rise. This breaks the traditional market balance of supply and demand until the bubble pops. I highly doubt this is sustainable for 2 years, and I think the bubble has started to pop in some segments. My trade-in dropped KBB by almost $10k in the last 2 months. Wish it had been running in January, but I’ll happily contribute to the problem by flipping again and getting rid of or reducing my loan payment.

Will be interesting this time around. I’d love to pick up a project if things crash. Prepared to hold onto my britches on my Ram 5.7. Hopefully the Jeep holds in there. Anyone have a Wrangler in 08, did they take the full brunt?

I like flipping. I flipped my 2015 wranglerX games, then my 2020 wrangler Altitude, now I am in 2022 4xe ordered just before the hike in price:) I did buy a 2022 Mini Cooper to hold me over for delivery, and the value has dropped so much with Carmax, dealer, carvana, and VROom, that it has forced me to keep it. I hope that the 4xE gets an upgrade to 300 miles on battery.

If anyone is purchasing a car based on mpg, even the awesome 4XE isn't on the radar for them.
If you plan on driving all electric you can't possibly find a car with a shorter range at 21
If you want good mileage per gallon of actual gas the damn thing is actually worse than the same Jeep 2.0 without the electric at 20 mpg 4xe vs 22mpg without
I like the extra power you're gonna get for sure and if you have a home charger and actually use it everyday and your kw hour cost is low and your commute is less than the average american which currently sits at almost 30 miles per day then you can see a bit of savings for sure long term
Then again, the amazing number of people who have garages stuffed full of crap who currently have to park outside but do plan on cleaning that garage out and actually installing that charger and then actually using that charger......
I wouldn't bet too heavily on those folks and its a very large percentage
But I am sure the demand will go up as well as resale on the 4xe.... but hasn't that been for every single car over the last year ?
Hey, you have a real nice 4XE on the way, enjoy it for what it is and don't get too hung up on potential profit on it as hopefully you'll be enjoying that unit long enough that it'll be old and rusty by the time you give it up - Jeeps are for fun and adventure, when you get it you'll probably sell off that fancy Lexus and order another Jeep.
fyi - I'm just Jealous, wish I had a 4xe coming too ! ?

This is what I think too - the current 4xe is a great next step to bringing fuel consumption of these things down but I personally am waiting for it to mature a little before considering it (plus, they don't make it in a 2 door which is what I want to stick with for now). The prospect of being able to run multi-hour trails and never hearing the motor in the wilderness awesome, and possible today with the 4xe. I just think by the time I put a lift, some necessary armor, and bigger tires on it, the EV range will be pretty limited. Give me double or even 100-mile range from the factory and I'm in.

If gas starts hitting $10/gal or something wild (knocking on wood over here) maybe the demand will noticeably bump up on new orders, but doubtful. Most people buying $60k+ ICE off road rigs can afford the gas.

The trick, as with all bubbles, is to not get too leveraged or to get out when it's good.
I work with people who are trading up to into loans they can barely afford and counting on being able to earn equity as the vehicle appreciates to then trade out for something else with lower payments. It's like 2008, but with cars. But hey, Reddit says you're smart for getting more car, so I guess that's that.

Our electric provider is Pacific Graft & Extortion (PG&E) They have a tiered pricing system and when you hit the “excessive use” tier the price skyrockets and you are treated to nasty-notes and symbols about your “excessive use”!!! We routinely hit it in our hot summers as the usage they charge as “excessive” is as low as they can possibly make it. Add Electric Car Charging???NOPE!!!!
